I went to an ICS course, I don't even remember which one. One of the instructors said if he was the IC or safety officer he would ban energy drinks in base camp for all the reasons you said along with his belief that they are stronger diuretics than coffee. He felt like they were a worse contributor to heat emergencies than coffee. You wouldn't believe the shit storm that started. Typical firemen, got out the torches and pitch forks.
