Well basically guys, the piston blew and shrapnel has scraped into the bottom end from what I can gather and after you guys have helped me I've decided to tell him to go along with the fix, thanks for the great help and community here!

I have tried the pressure washer and it doesn't remove the hard old dirt stuck on the pipe, am yet to try it with some Scotch Brite, I'll have a look around my shed for some of it and hopefully do that, also I may try the Silkolene all in one!
