Is this factory support from Honda a good thing?

Probably will ease some financial burden for Reed, and maybe give his team some slack since maybe Team Honda is doing some of the job? But I don't know if this is necessarily a good thing. He did pretty damn ok without them, and since they couldn't really give him the right offer to start with, will they now all of a sudden prosper on his success without paying him a salary?

This whole Reed being a privateer (which lately probably is not the truth because of Honda backing) was basically the center of attention around him. He did it his way, on an over the counter bike (?). But now with the Honda support that glory is fading some?

This is really no biggie, but I feel that this adventure became less all of a sudden and since I really don't see how that will make him that much more competitive I maybe wonder if it's a "mistake"?

I'm not sure what I would do, but if he had turned them down and won anyway I'm guessing the feeling would have been greater than if he wins on a factory bike, but the again he don't want to take the risk I assume, because winning has become the main goal...

The glory hasn't faded. Support or not, Reed came in on his terms. He can choose to accept their support or not. He is still the boss.

Don't know why people get hung up on the whole privateer thing either. As far as I know, there is no reward for being a privateer.
Reed's accomplishments this season are remarkable.

Not sure about easing the financials at this point... seems like the money has already been spent. Seems to me it's a big feather in Honda's cap though if he manages to win the title.

Reed already had some Factory bits and has had two weeks for himself and Ozzy to sort everything out.

If it does anything it will boost confidence and that is worth the price right there.

In owning race teams, ALL incoming money is good.

i just think it's kind of funny that the honda guys didn't think he would be as good as he is this year, now that he's the only guy contending for the championship, he gets all the support that he couldn't get before.

but i don't know shit. obviously. just speculation on my part.

You're not Chad Reed and you have no stake in Two Two Motorsports, so it doesn't matter. He made the decision he felt was right for his team.

It doesn't diminish anything. Even if he had FULL factory support from the start, this season would still be major accomplishment.

Maybe they knew he'd kick ass and they got him for nothing, either way they win, he's on a honda.

i agree, i've been thinking from day one that they were smart to let him and Pourcel slip through and hire Grant. even before grant got hurt, i had a feeling they dodged the bullet

My thinking is; if Reed's pro Circuit Honda 450 was so good and we all know he won a race in San Diego on it, then why would he need or want support from Factory Honda so late in the series?
Change is not always good. After racing a bike one way all season, is making these changes going to screw him up? We'll have to wait and see.

Chad Reed didn't just fall off the turnip truck, I doubt he would make any changes that weren't an improvement.

help from honda = always good. especially for a guy as mental as reed. total confidence booster.

as for the influx of money, i havent seen or heard anything to justify that claim. all i know is that theyve floated him some technical support. i dont think we are going to see "honda" on the side of his rig as one of his main sponsors from here on out. someone please correct me if im wrong.

never a privateer, he was a private/customer team. now he'd technically be a satellite. but im guessing that its temporary. honda would never do this if they had a healthy hrc stable. they hate seeing one of their satellites beat the factory. this is a one time deal.

Even this late in the game there is not a factory team out there that is not testing their SX bikes for improvements. It may just be fine tuning suspension at this point but they are still doing it. I'm sure that Reed believes as do most of us that a factory Honda has more "options" than Reeds top of the line privateer steed may have. It is certainly not a downgrade...

I was kinda cheering for him myself because of the privateer effort but now it seems to be a strt up factory effort now, imagine the feeling and measg this would have sent..but then again even MC got yamaha factory support when he did his own team, didnt he? Reed has been saying all yr that his deal was out of his own pocket....i agree with the above Quote!
