Small pond to be pissing in.
Most of the folks that are at that level know each other and you would be pissing off more than just the folks that you snagged the bike from.
In the case of Chatfield it was definitely some deliberate payback for the tear down as Dave said and from the folks that I talked to that were around then nobody was too heartbroken for the Alessi's as they had made a pretty thorny bed for themselves at that point.
Most folks seemed more bummed for Mike Varner about the whole thing.
The rule is designed to prevent amateurs from investing way too much in a bike, but common.
It surprises me that it doesn't happen more often with a rule like that. Technically, you could show up at the races to claim bikes and sell them. That could be a profitable business, considering the nature of some of the bikes.

Then a bunch of guys on here at Vital said...."He aint no friggin' junior rider.....he friggin' sand bagged!"..........I think the promoters ended up tracking him down and taking the truck back.
I think he claimed to be a novice rider, that was back in 2004-2005-ish.
I think he signed up under a fake name also ,Alex “David” Snow.
He was over here in the US at the time and went and raced that AttackMX event in Arizona and won the truck.
His parents were still over seas in England I believe and didn't really have any knowledge of it at first....so they claimed.
But from what I remember he had to give the Ford F-350 dually back and his parents chewed his ass pretty good.
There were also rumors that some promoters banned him from racing any of their series over here for a year or so.
i'd take the one year suspension, race DQ and you can keep the damn trophy. seems like a rule with good intention but wasn't really thought out
aint gettin my bike!
If you are getting top level support you are expected to be at all the big amateur events, missing a year would be the end of your shot at getting a good ride.
For folks that spend an average of $70,000 a year to travel and race the money for the bike would be an acceptable loss.
Far as I know, only the winning bike is up for grabs, and only by a racer that ran against it.
