I don't condemn a comment like this, but his statement on that 1-watt web site is hypocritical.
Guy-b does what TFS used to and offered it for free , This place exploded and Motonews died , I don't post there strictly because nothing is happening there I like the faster pace of Vital.
All the folks I know that still post at Motonews are great people. Chalk this up to one of Rocks thoughts that probably should have been posted where non members can't read it. Nothing good can come from it.

You had the same type of stuff going on there as you do here.
The slamming riders/racers etc....fights,arguments etc....
Even TFS & Nerd would fight/argue with people,often.
Even respected pro riders arguing/fighting/slamming each other on occasion.
(When you put that many people together in a forum,it is bound to happen.)
The only thing you didn't have was repeated offenders signing back up on fake names,
for the simple fact it was a pay site (that is the main problem here).
After TFS left Moto News,the board sorta died out,and many people for the most part migrated here.
Most folks did not want to pay anymore due to the fact there was hardly no content anymore,not to mention the forum wasn't very active or as fun.
Rock came along and started doing some cool little photo reports which I'm sure helped get some visitors back to Moto News.....But even with that,the place never seemed to rebound to it's former glory.
Another thing that did not help was when Hutch went on his banning tirade
over people posting in the Fan Of The Week Thread's.
There were quite a few of us banned just for posting non-nude pics in that thread,
which had pretty much became a tradition.Once the board was reformatted
all were allowed to sign back up ,but after paying again.Some members decided
not to go back.
The problem with running a pay forum is.....
When people pay to post ,they feel they are entitled to post what ever they
want regardless, for the simple fact they are paying to post.
People can do that for free here for the most part,within reason.
The mods here are very understanding and put up with much more then they should have to.
Now don't get me wrong.... Rock is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet off these boards and he does mean well.
But what I don't think he understands is,when you get a ton of people together like you do on this forum,problems,name calling ,cursing,fighting etc...is bound to happen.Not to mention when someone gets banned,they want to come back on 10 other user names and make trouble here and try to give the place a bad name (some know who I'm talking about).
That is just the way it is.
Obviously you need to save this for the "Airing of Grievances" portion of Festivus.....followed by the "Feats of Strength".
FastEddy is right - once TFS left, it went down hill pretty fast over there. I still check over there to see for Tommy Benolkin posts and his pictures. And I also drop by there every Friday to check a particular thread.....
Besides I was only making an observation and definitely not scolding. I actually don't remember Motonews when it was free as I joined in January of 2006.

BTW I also very entertained by the recent thrashing someone gave me in an attempt to draw me in but I've been there done that so better luck next time....just don't hold your breath waiting for me to engage.

His old school photos are awesome....and you wont find a cooler guy then Tom.
Did any of you see a few years back when he raced that legends motocross race (it was on TV) and a rider crashed hard
and Tom stopped mid moto to help the guy?
That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

if he's saying that this place has a couple bad apples, he aint saying anything that we dont already say about ourselves.
as for the name calling and foul language here, it was way worse back in the motodrive days. now days i'd say it never gets that out of hand. every thing that could be said has already been said. weve seen every type of meltdown possible. its all bee done before.
sometimes we have a few cool threads. sometimes the topics stay intelligent. but for the most part this place is just a hive of insanity. but whatever he says about us, we are way harder on ourselves than anyone could be, so again, i dont understand the point he's trying to make. sure, this place is full of idiots, but so's our entire country so what can we expect?
this will never be a place you can come to for inside info or insight into a situation. its not what forums are used for. its a place for banter and bullshitting with a mx theme. nothing more, nothing less. and bushwood is no different it simply has membership dues. if it was a public domain and had half the traffic this place does, shit would get out of hand over there as well.

MotoSmith is a good dude,I've know him for 20+ years.
Seems like he just made a statement on MT how much more civil it is.
But when you don't have a lot of people together,things are much more quieter & civil ,normally.

But I come here first and often no matter what. Yes you are gonna get some crazy posts on here and yes there are times when things just go way off topic and end up somewhere totally different. And yes there are annoying posts and offensive posts and guys that get clicked and come back and get clicked again.
But that's all part of the variety of the website. Not to mention that I personally believe that Guyb is one of the best if not the best at getting input from the riders.(Matthes is in the running as well) It seems that they are pretty comfortable in talking to him. Not to mention he is pretty damn good with a camera. And then there is always a chance that you get a DV or some pro (Jeff Alessi posted for the first time today I believe) that will come on here, Hamblin is another one.
I don't know, I just don't take a lot of this stuff personally and even though I will engage in some trash talk about racing or Stewart this or Chad that. That's all part of it. Not to mention some of these guys on here are pretty cool and funny. I have met Guyb personally and he seems like he is doing good things with the site and trying to let it evolve on it's own while stepping in when it does get way out of line.
I like to be funny and sarcastic and alll that but for the most part I believe that I am pretty respectful to everybody on here and enjoy all of the information both good and bad that this place has to offer.
Anyways, that's about all I got. This might be the longest post ever for me but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

I was a MotoNews dues member (not freebie lurker) from '05 I think (maybe sooner, seems like I renewed a few times). At Glen Helen '08 I briefly met Friday and he told me about Vital. I signed up and never went back to the other site.
The pricetag almost always assures a mellow atmosphere. If the new plan entails removing that then be prepared to face the consequences.
A one time, life time membership fee might be the way to go.
That way you do not have random people just making multiple free accounts to do nothing but simply cause trouble&problems and troll and harass other members repeatedly.
All accounts admin/mod approved,no auto approve process.
That way they can check and see if the ip's are from a isp of the location of the poster and billing address, and not some proxie etc..
It is a place to come and hang out and BS about moto/the sport/etc...joke with each other and all that fun stuff.
When someone gets out of line...they get kicked out (things taken on a case by case basis).
If you ever read this place or come on here on race nights....then you understand what I mean.
People coming on here having a few drinks and following the races,etc....
However,it would be really cool to have a kids only section of the forum
,to where kids can only post (that was highly moderated by some moto parents to where it was kept G-Rated -all safe search approved etc..).
Maybe even have some of the pro riders pop in from time to time and answer the kids questions etc..(you never know... some of the riders might enjoy doing something like this from time to time).

This forum evolved over several versions, beginning with Whipit/Freshdirt.com, the pioneer in all of this (Thank you Jess and MikeeeP). It was an underground thing, the internet was still relatively unknown and it was a small group. The original "yellow board" was insanely stupid as there was no registration, no usernames and you could post under a different name every two seconds and even post using other people's name...total chaos. Then Freshdirt went to the blue board and the registered usernames, but still remained a relatively unmoderated "wild west" forum and was still pretty underground. You had to be a pretty hardcore moto-head to know of or post on Freshdirt. MikeeeP had a meltdown, RC16 has his crash, and the chaos exploded and people began migrating to Motodrive.com, owned by GuyB, and not started as a business, but pretty much as his own forum because he was sick of the shit at Freshdirt. So everyone eventually moved to Motodrive and it was Freshdirt II, just a wee bit more moderated. GuyB was smart enough to know not to censor language, unless it was race based, but the infamous George Carlin's "Seven dirty words" (and then some) were perfectly legal. Motodrive was not a kiddie site.
Then GuyB got an offer to sell Motodrive and wisely did so, and Motodrive became Vital, and GuyB and the Vital staff wisely left the content and use mostly unchanged.
In my (well known) opinion that the biggest change made here which was a mistake was the disallowing of Noob hazing. Hazing noobies and giving them a hard time was a rite of passage and hardened them up to what they were going to have to deal with if they plan to swim with the sharks. It kept the dumbasses out of the pool and it also exposed those who can't take the heat. Hazing served a purpose. Hazing kept those new stupid fucks who wandered in thinking they can take over or control the forum out. When we had hazing, everyone participated. Some more than others (guilty), but if a noob tried too hard to fight back or seemed to soft, the feeding frenzy began and everyone jumped in on the beatdown, and the noob either eventually got in line or GTFO.
I believe it was a mistake for GuyB to eliminate hazing. I believe that mistake has allowed the influx of unregulated ignorance.
New users should have to earn their way in, just like it was, back when we were known as "the mean board" because when people thought we were the mean board, they thought twice before posting stupid shit, now they don't care.
Finally, It's a parent's job to monitor what their kids read and see on the internet.
and Vital is far from the worst thing your kid has read or seen on the internet, trust me
