Only someone on a 2 stroke deserves it.
Anyone who wins it this year deserves it, I don't care who wins it. Each individual in the "Big 5" have put in crazy seasons so far.

Would love to see Reed pull it off or some other longshot. But it really does look like his year indoors.
But it's really unlikely that he'll win the championship without winning some races. It would take two bad races from RV, and one bad race from Chad, all the while holding off Stewart (only 5 back of RD) and Canard (9 back). Not impossible, but a lot of things would have to break his way. It would be amazing if it happened, especially after he lost 18-20 points when his chain came off...
I still think RV has this one on lockdown. He can let James go if he's in 2nd or even 3rd a few races. It is very unlikely James will ride six mistake free races, he can just concentrate on beating Reed and Dungey, which I think he is pretty confident he can do, rightfully so.
He's not on a CR250
Damon Bradshaw was probably my favorite rider of all time (okay, maybe tied with Bob Hannah) and it killed me when he lost the c'ship to Stanton in 92'. If memory serves, Stanton only won 3 mains that season, while Brashaw won 6-or-7, and was clearly the faster rider on the track. But I never felt like Stanton didn't deserve it, or that it wasn't "legitimate". He lined up at the same gate as DB every race and at the end of the season, he had the most points...period.
I don't get all this "paper champion" and "straight-up" BS that contiually keeps coming up. You either won, or you didn't. End of story.
Pit Row
Why would he not deserve it, is my question to you.

That isn't say that there aren't varying degrees of "convincingness" upon which a rider can win.
For instance in 2007 Steve Ramon became World Champion after Josh Coppins, who up until that point had pretty much dominated the series, suffered a freak mechanical failure and subsequent crash - badly injuring his shoulder. Up until that point Steve had NOTHING for Josh. Now Steve ended up winning and was the rightful champion, no other rider could top his points at the end of the year. Fine.
However given that he barely won, in fact I'm not sure he won a single overall the whole year, it was far from convincing. In other words mathematically he deserved it. From the point of view of pure heart, dogged determination, win percentage and fitness - I think everyone else felt it pretty much belonged to Josh. Though having said that you could argu from Ramon's point of view that Josh had a history of crashing out and was basically a ticking time bomb. All Steve needed to do bide his time and keep banging in those top 5 and podium rides, which is what he did.
So there are different way's of looking at it but ultimately the points at the end of the year rule.
