Because Tunisia and Egypt are on each side.
Having an unstable rabble rouser in the midst of a civil war in between two new fragile establishing governments can fuck shit up bad.
We need both calm and allies. kaDAFFY fucks that up.

As I have said, I believe we missed this window a week or so ago, but I am hoping for the best

Winner!

There are a few other countries going through a similar situation, but we're not rushing to their side. The US, like GB and France, love to meddle in things where they think they can gain an economical advantage. Heck, those three countries seem to have forcibly colonized the entire planet at one time or another. We have no respect for the positions and opinions of others.

Let the Libyans fight it out. If it gets shitty enough, their public could rise up and change the course of their country. Gaddafi's been in power since1969, and there've only been a few instances of his activity outside of his borders, and those were relatively minor (albeit crazy). He's certainly no true global threat. Arguably, he's another Hussein. Heck, it could be argued that the Lockerbie bombing was a response to Reagan sticking his nose in Gadaffi's business.

The Muslims seemingly need oppressive regimes, 'cause the Shi'ites and Sunni's are always at each others' throats. All we'll do is install an unstable government we'll have to prop up until it just isn't economically feasible, and it'll come crashing down.

Nothing like hitting the nail square on the head Flarider. Plus, if Moooomar gets taken out Obama will have some more campaign ammo for 2012. A lot of people hate that sorry bastard after all the lives he took when he had that jet shot down. Has nothing to do with Fox or the Republicans Nacho.

How many "Civil Wars" have we been in?

Any idea?

Count'em...you'll have to go waaaaay back; but, count'em.

I mean 'There's"..."ours"...all of it.

Was 'Nam a Civil War?

1812?

SOMALIA?

Bay of Pigs/Cuba?

Bosnia?

Are we "Involved" if we're there due to a U.N. action?

So...if we have -1- soldier on the ground in Sierra Leone...are we involved?

Nope, I don't mean it that way -&- it doesn't "play" that way...no ONE party is innocent or more/less culpable IN ANY OF THIS. The Dem's -OWN- 'Nam; So, what...everyone fed the Dragon.

We've been putting our fingers in everybody-else's pie for a VERY long-time.

Way before Manifest Destiny, even.

I remember you saying this before and I now think you're probably right about our motivations.

However it's still a huge misjudgement imo because we have no idea what he'll (Daffy) will be replaced with. I think we're sort of hoping that if the rebels win, then they'll be friendly to us for our help. But in reality there's no guarantee of that. In fact I find it far more likely or at least 50/50, that they'll immediately turn on us. They're an unpredictable people. They think one thing today and maybe something else tomorrow, depending on their mood......

I just find the way we're going after Daffy very distasteful. The way our leaders are trying to make out it's for humanitarian reasons when almost no one in their right mind believe's that. It's a civil war that's up to the Libyans to resolve and while I'm sure that the colonel isn't a nice guy, he's by no means the worst either.

It's very one sided in the media over here - I mean the rebels attack and Daffy fires back and they go crazy... Well yeah no shit he's going to fire back, who wouldn't? For him this is potentially life or death just as much as it is for anyone else.

I agree it's 50/50
But whomever gets in will likely realize that in order to play ball, they have to play ball
If they don't play ball, their new country can be cut off commercially on imports and exports, and their new country will become even more poor. Plus they'll need to rebuild their army (since we blew it up), and they're not going to make their own jets and rocket launchers, so we'll work a deal and either give it to them or sell cheap in order to make friends

We are not going to get involved in those.

Sad as it is, and as long as that shit has been going on, there is no benefit. There's no "win," there's no "gain"
Those countries have shit to offer. If sand was a commodity, we'd be there, yesterday.
But it isn't and we aren't.

Sad? Yes
Bad situation? Yes

By the way, if the people were white and not black, we would have been there years ago.
Yeah, I said it.

These people amaze me. Let's get a bunch of rich westerners together to tell the Africans they can't build a road because we need our giant RV park to come visit. You don't need infrastructure or reasonable commercial assessibility- you need to provide us our giant game park for our vacations!
