And yeah Stroupe, Canard, Izzi, Hahn all came out of the same LL class. Interesting that the 2 more talented ones back then already appear to be on the backside of their careers.

he's been a career motocrosser since he could walk. what is he? nearly 20 years old? if you had been pouring your life into your (dads fantasy) career for 15 or so straight years, you too would be looking for ways to release.
top tier athletes can only hold their focus and drive for so long. and it doesnt help things that the types of personalities that do well in mx arent usually ones with high attention spans. the career arc is what it is, for some it started at 4 years old, peaking in their early teens, and for others like dungey, his "career mentality" started much later. dungeys got a lot more in the tank.
choir boy dungey and canard will eventually go thru the same process. he will simply go about it in a very private manner.
bubba has gone thru it, it just hasnt been so well publicized. rc did. mc did. every athlete matures and peaks at a different period in life and a lot has to do with how early things when from fun mx racing to race-dad yelling in your face after every moto.
what izzi's going thru is just human nature and should not be bashed. he's worked extremely hard to get just where he is. being a pro athlete is one of the most demanding professions i can think of. it places demands on a person that 99 percent of people cannot handle, and this board is made up of entirely a bunch of people that couldnt handle pro sports demands otherwise thats what y'all would all be doing right now.
cut the kid some slack, izzi has been pushed extremely hard for a long time. everyone has a breaking point.
But is it really appropriate to bring his personal family business into it? You guys are calling Nico the lowlife and scumbag and loser, but bringing his personal business into it is true scumbag. THis board fucking blows these days when threads like this descend into oblivion.
Here is hoping Nico can nail a start and ride out front.
Go Nico, Go!
Not everybody has the family life/structure/parent/s that keep a kid in line,
even then some just want out
of a sport they've been doing for years.
Year and years ago I dropped out of a promising mx career to be a rock star and it worked! not bs.
while we were all partying it up from 15 to 20, chasing girls, doing stupid stuff, working a little job for a few hours after school and on the weekends, these guys we professional athletes with 8 hour training days, regimented diet, no night life, not alot of fun, just ride train, ride train, give up normal teenager stuff, deal with pressure and injury.
They started at 5 or 6, by 11 or 12 have gotten focused, by 20, burned out, and missed a huge part of the fun part of life we all had where we had no real responibility and our biggest goal was hoping to get naked with someone and have a beer and hang out.
Think about it, even if it was horrible for you, think of the fun you had from 15 to 20. As bad as it could have gotten for those "i had to work from 3 pm after school until 2 am guys", it still didnt have the pressure, lack of social life, sacrificing the things we all did.
I think the main reason we expect so much from these guys, is because they can do something we can only dream of and all we think of is the speed, not what it took and takes daily to go that speed! We try to live vicariously thru them and only want the good part, not the rest...... makes us all about the worst "mini parent" there is.
One last thing.... we all ride for fun. I was given some very sage advice once, and it holds true today...... never take something you enjoy doing for fun and turn it into a job you have to do, you will hate it quickly.
These racers are fully aware they have a short window to make some of the money back. Izzi is 20 years old, and if he keeps doing what he has been doing, its over. He is a man now, with a girlfriend and kid. Maybe the attitude has changed but I thoought a man raises his kid and supports it. The rap deal just makes him look like an idiot. He isn't a boy from the hood, he is a motocross racer that lived with his mom in a motorhome until he was 17 or 18.
When a man has a kid, his career becomes a job and his dog becomes a dog. Stop making bullshit excuses.
