Still should be called smx futures that way short hand would just be futures… but anyways good news, theyre finally creating an emx style series for the up and comers with a champion at the end. This should give them much more race experience by the time they turn pro, esp with the age changes.
Exciting 2027 SMX Next updates.

- Two equal 5 round SX and MX series with a Showdown for each (not a championship).
- All 10 rds count toward seeding riders in playoffs.
- 1 SMX Next Champion
No individual SX or MX champion. Maybe a signal for broader things to come!? https://t.co/Qg6i1P1Wrj
C class national champion on a factory bike
So it is cool to have a series for 16 year old SMX riders on factory 250's, but it is bad to have the same 16 year olds race the regular 250 class on factory 250's. That makes total sense.
Sacha will make a mockery of the races he enters next year.
Seems like a lot of potential for gatekeeping with this. Can anyone show up and try to qualify or is this invite only/pay to play for factory supported amateurs? Are those who are invited going to opt out of LL and focus on this instead? Not sure I love the idea of kids having to worry about SX at younger and younger ages to get into the pro pipeline. What could possibly go wrong?
