So I've been through the requisite forum search, google machine search, and all 74 pages of the "Post your favorite photo of the day" thread, (I was really hoping I'd strike gold in the many awesome vintage shots Maverick and Ruy laid up there), but no wheeo.
The two shots I'm looking for are both old school b&w.
The first one is a Russian or maybe Czech rider coming through a set of whoops, alongside another rider, but in FULL SEND mode, front end high and praying for a miracle. The era is maybe early 70's? I do remember his handlebars looking like they're about 40 inches of 1/2 inch tube.
The second is an older time frame- an unknown rider in full swap on a heavy old school scrambles machine, having just about touched down the front wheel and a second away from a violent splashdown.
If any of you think you may have these resting in your archive and could share, I'd appreciate it.
H
This one maybe?
I don't think this is the other one but 'violent splashdown' makes me think it could be haha
I have no idea what photo you're talking about, but I'm really interested in seeing what others post as possible answers. Is there a good vintage mx photo thread?
I've seen this photo somewhere before and I believe #15 is Kent Howerton. Great shot!

Howerton. Hangtown 1975.
This one ran in Dirt Bike's Crash And Burn Magazine. Charley Morey photo from the Orlando Florida Winter Am round 1/28/1973.
Yeah that's all before my time but I do have it labelled Kent Howerton in my folder so I'd found that out somehow haha
In that first image, the guy's face sure looks like Johnny O'mara. It even looks like he's wearing boot gaiters, but the image seems a little too old for that.
I raced there that day.
Drove by the track last week. Half of it is still there…flattened, but open land. The other half is apartments.
Jemcee you nailed it first try- thanks! Do you know who that is?
I might have been a little too colorful with my language leading to the wetter attempts for the second one. It’s not actually a muddy scenario. If I remember right, it’s a very old school four stroke, and you can actually see the front end bending from the impact, bike and rider nearly perpendicular to the direction of travel.
Thanks again.
Nah no idea but I've got a heap of old school pics saved
