He was clearly catching him at the end and then looked to me like he backed it down the last lap. Was he doing it out of respect or just didn't want to piss Stewart off?

RC would have gone for the jugular just to make a point and demoralize his opponents.

And yes, laps 10 through 20 RV's times were faster that JS's were.
Because Stewarts a B.A....Stewart will win this Championship, you heard it hear first...And up until just this year I HATED James Stewart with a passion. Not my favorite rider, but he's growing on me.

RV2 has a clear head and doesn't seem like the type to "Rub It In". He's all class and knows what he has to do to win the championship. Like he said in a Transworld Interview...Aldon knows James' weaknesses and it appears it is working to RV2's advantage.
Ryan V doesnt mind rubbing it in to Mike Alessi in some of his radio interveiws..not that it bothers me

Bottom line is , RV knows ( most of the time ) where his limits are.......James sometimes does not.....which puts him on the ground.

It does no good what so ever to go out and slam 2 second faster laps.....if you can't keep the bike on the track at those speeds anyways.

James is un-Godly fast.....but that speed of pushing it past the "tracks limit".....bites him in the ass all the time.

This has been James' curse since day one.....and why other guys like RC walked away with title after title.

Yeah maybe with Mike lol but him and James don't really have a history do they? James' has came out and said many times that he has a ton of respect for everyone out on the track (Maybe not Reed after ATL haha) and I'm assuming RV2 has the same for James.

I'm sure if he needed to make the pass on Stewart he would have...he just didn't need to and played it safe.

If I was Ryan I wouldn't have lapped James either. I would have wanted him to ride another lap on that rough ass track. Knowing that your the last person on the track isn't the best feeling in the world...

No point lapping him.

1. Stewart could have got angry and taken the opportunity to take him out.
2. Another lap for Stewart is another chance of a yardsale.

Smart move from RV.

Example: You get the lapper flag because the leader is right behind you. You turn around and see James Stewart. Assuming he's the leader is a safe assumption. So they make room for him to get by, but in reality the leader was a few seconds back. This was especially noticeable with Mike Alessi. Stewart probably would have gotten by those guys anyway, but that certainly made it easier. Another thing that helped Stewart was a lot of top guys crashed in front of him too. That's just how Daytona is. The hop over the wall (which was awesome) was what separated him and Villopoto. Other than that they were pretty even. Nice ride to get to 9th and keep his championship hopes alive.

Very not true. Stewie was big time faster through the staircase section, and had some better lines through the offset rhythm section. Obviously, not quite as fast after the crash but i noticed his different line and the gap he pulled in that staircase immediately.

Villopoto was running 1:17 lap times before Stewart's crash. Stewart was running 1:15 lap times. Hopping over that wall is definitely saving two seconds at least in my opinion. Also in Jeff's and Ricky's opinion too but hey we could be wrong who knows?

Well the broadcast didn't show much of that section, and everyone was so occupied with the wall jump that they missed it. I was sitting with a clear view of that staircase and he was skimming to the top of it top of it and using that top level to get some more speed....it was a huge time saver, and nobody else did that all night. Doesn't look like much on TV, but it was pretty cool live, and it was noticeably faster.

Not to mention the lead that he had on the first lap by the time they got to the wall jump indicates that he was clearly faster in a bunch of other sections.

It's a crappy angle but you can clearly see it starting at around 4:06. Watch how Reed does it at about 11:02.
