Retirement is rough, needed more things to keep me occupied. So, I went and purchased this 1997 CR250 basket case. $800 seemed like a decent deal, until I realized this thing is clapped out like the Indians did the Buffalo.

Started getting it disassembled. It’s been “Power Washed”, every bearing is a dried out rusty mess.
Dropped the frame, swingarm, and sub-frame off at powder coat this morning. Mardi says, “What are you doing, Crazy Man”?

I’m in need of a 1992-2001 Stator side engine case.
Good score will be following! I too am retired and also building a 97 purchased as roller. Gonna shove 97 500 in it and do the Elsinore kit .

Awesome. I’m looking for a 325 big bore cylinder. See ESR has/had one……
How about a 24 hour turnaround on Powder Coat? Superior did an awesome job.

Looking at wheel sets. I’m really digging Gold Excels. Don’t want too much black.

Update from BusterScruggs
I had a 97 also, that bike was the definition of rigid! The motor to me was so much fun. I remember shifting from 2nd to 3rd and just smiling. Broke my femur at Perris 1 afternoon on that thing. Ended up selling it and getting a Yamaha. Very interested in this build.
The performance of that bike , was nowhere near the anticipation leading up to its arrival. Everyone couldn’t wait for it to hit our shores. What a piece of shit. Once the rear end went sideways , it was over. Jeremy would have been an 8 time SX champion if it weren’t for that bike.
All of the tests at the time had it first or second. Lusk liked the bike. Damon Bradshaw’s last AMA victory, on the 1997.
Jeremy didn’t ride a 1994, 1995, or 1996 Honda. It was a ‘93 made to look like the current year. Then he went to Suzuki and couldn’t ride the bike, had to switch the forks. Yamaha he had to have 1995 cylinder. “I will Win on my KTM”, what happened to that?
I’m as much of an MC fan as anybody, but let’s talk real facts. People who ride one now, say they behave more like the current modern chassis.
This is why I’ve quit posting about the build. Take your bullshit somewhere else, we are all full up around here.
Me on my new 97 in the late fall of 96….killer engine…when you get the left side case, make sure you match it to the right side before final assembly…
Dude, who pissed in your cereal? You sure got butt hurt for nothing.
