EMX250 is the European championship in the 250 class. That`s why you only see the races during the European rounds of MXGP. You also have EMX125.

There’s an age rule too. I think it is 21 max age to race Emx 250. 

 SMX in America is based on an invite only. That’s why you don’t see the full gates. I’ve heard of very good riders not getting in. Just denied & ignored. 

EMX is open to anybody. Show up & qualify. Also, it is like a 10 round series. Where SMX is not a series. 1 race championship
