water pump?

Edited Date/Time 1/26/2012 1:38pm
I might buy a 2008 honda crf250r for $2000 But i was told it needed a water pump. Apparently the coolant is leaking in to the bottom end and in the clutch basket....I highly doubt its the water pump but just wanted some opinions on if i should buy it or not.

Also i am broke and in need of a bike so im gonna be making payments.. so far this is the only deal i can find everybody else wants all there money at once.

Making payments on a broken bike? Insane. Find an older, good running 250 two stroke, you can race it in the local 250 class against the 4's. And probably buy it without making payments.

Water pump seal? not hard to change. Do you know the person who owns it? It could be a time bomb. Be careful.

I had the water pump seal go on my 06 CRF250, wasn't that hard to change. I also changed the bearing as well. The bearing you do need to press out, and press the new one back in. If you don't have a bearing press you can get by with a large C clamp and some deep well sockets.

If that is what it is, then here is what you should need to fix it.

You are looking at parts 3, 7,8 and 9 Here

and you might want to pick up gasket # 5 Here

If you are broke, you are in need of a job,or another job,not in need of a bike. If you are broke,go to work, and forget riding a 4stroke motocross bike. That honda is trashed because they all need valves after every 30 hours. If you got it for free, you will still spend 2k on it. Get another job, save your money, and when you got enough, find a nice 250 2 stroke to have fun on. You will be both happier in life without the bills, and have a great time riding.
