The 1966 Movie Grand Prix was a lot of fun for me to watch and compare tracks back then to the tracks currently.
I would go rewind a lot to compare...

...the tunnel would be where the car is now, what I found interesting is the elevated roadway used as a parking lot...
...for the other racing categories...no longer there...
...most of the filming for movie was of Formula 2 cars that were updated to look like Formula 1 cars.

I watched some of the Grand Prix movie this morning.
Before they showed the Monza race, there was a model track of the Monza circuit...
...the announcer explains that the combination of the oval with the road circuit is over 6 miles long...
...doing the switchover from road circuit to oval (then oval to road circuit) every lap had to be something else...
...the Monza model track is around 2 hours, 07 minutes, and 25 seconds in on that you tube link.

Agreed, after reading some of these I want to change my list now. 

I forgot about Pulp Fiction.  To this day if anyone in my family or group of friends asks "Are you ok" ?  The answer is always "Naaah man... I'm pretty fuckin' far from ok"   Like clockwork 😄

Bob Bondurant - Wikipedia

 Remember the name Bob Bondurant? He was an old-timer racing driver who drove for Carroll Shelby between 1960--65  and won a Sports Car World Championship. In 1964 he and Dan Gurney won the Sports Car class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in Shelby's Cobra, and finished 4th overall. In 1965-66 he raced nine F1 GPs, his highest result was a 4th place at Monza in 1966.

He later owned the racing complex at the south end of Phoenix, where I-10 exits the city and enters the Indian reservation -- "Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving". He was quite the Big Name in the 1960s and 70s. Taught all the big Hollywood names to drive afst -- Paul Newman, James Garner, Tom Cruise, etc. 

Anyways.... one evening in 2006 or so, I was sitting in First Class from PHX to Las Vegas, going to work, and sat next to a crusty geezer who kept the stewardess busy 🤣. It was Bob. We got talking, and me having watched my first F1 GP at age 11 in 1973, it was a fascinating hour. 

He had been the technical advisor for "Grand Prix" (one of them, anyways). 

He told me how they filmed the start scene at Monaco . It was REAL. He drove the camera car. FIA (or whatever) allowed him to drive at the back of the field for the warm-up lap, do the actual start, do one lap at the tail end of the field, then pull off into the pits.

So that start scene at Monaco is 100% real.  If I recall right, the pre-race driver's briefing was too. 

Re. Monza -- in 2011 I rode my KTM 950 from the Greek island where my sister lived, all the way to London over the course of the summer. I reached Milan on a Sunday afternoon, and went to Monza. Interesting layout, it's in a big park in the city kinda like Central Park in NY. I rode in from the south gate, rode straight into the pits.... to see the WSB teams packing up after the WSB races ended two hours earlier FUCK!!!

There's a campground just north of the pits, so I camped there, discovered I had left my sleeping bag at my friend's house in Munich. FUCK!! again... luckily it was Euro summer, I slept in my riding gear and it was OK.

The old banking is still intact, yes. It's 33 degrees, STEEP. I tried to walk -- CRAWL -- up to the top but couldn't, you just slide down.

That Sunday evening, a bunch of German WSB fans camped about 50 yeards from me. They had a huge flatbed truck with giant speakers set up like a concert stage, and they RAGED till midnight. German are hard-core pisscats, they go straight to CUNT--FACED when they start drinking seriously, and this lot had been at it all day.

At one point some guy was running circles around the fire in his underpants and riding boots, waving some flag and yelling "...WHI-I-I-I-I-TE P-U-U-U-U-S-S-E-E-E-E!!" for about 10 minutes.   

Needless to say, I didn't get any sleep until they all passed out. 

Next morning they were GONE by 6 am, their camp site cleaned up, not a trace of their rave. Hard core, zee Chermans 🤣🤣

Famous spot on the track, this is where a spectacular fiery crash happened in the movie if I remember right.

Actually -- this was the spot in the movie.  Previous one was a service road passing under the track, check the banking. 

Reminiscent of Brooklands. (Which is a fantastic museum btw)

Those pioneers of motorsports were absolutely nuts.
