This series is interesting in that, like his Sicario movies & his Yellowstone and Land-man story lines...
Sheridan takes on a ride based some pretty serious political occurrences & world events and lays them out for one to see...and for one to contemplate...like reading a book or white paper would provide...but, laid out for you on the screen for you to use sight and sound and thought to digest.
Case in point:
The Ukraine War...the Drone War
This war presents an entirely New Kind of Terror for the war fighter. Death from above and beyond has taken a new form.
In the opening episodes of Lioness season 3, Sheridan provides a very well produced visual of the drone war theater. From the visual of "swarms" to the actual fucking terrifying sound of a "swarm"...which is like a million giant bees coming at you...LOUDLY.
As usual...He goes there. And, he goes there "Huge".
And, yes, it''s "A made for TV thing"...but, it's pretty damn good...from the necessity and difference of what actual "cover" is for the war-fighter to the entirely new and all too accessible means of killing that these drones provide.
Fuck. War IS Hell; but, now it's like some kind of REAL Science Fiction Hell.
Previous seasons took on the Cartel wars that are constant at and across the border from California to Texas and even-though it is...again...a Hollywood thing...Sheridan gets the point across. He even touches on the "Post Iraq" theater that still exists and other real-yet-seemingly forgotten crazy shit ath our fighters and operators are still covering.
And the dude knows his weps-systems...
From a fully "armed-up" Lil' Bird blasting gangsters on The Rio Grande to the "unauthorized" and wrong use of a Flash-Bang by operators...which really is a thing...Sheridan takes you inside some really impressive and truly awesome communities.
The audio...the video...the production, in general...
Pretty damn impressive.

(My favorite work of his remains, still...The Sicario projects that got us here)
Lioness is my baby, I am the one who guides the show visually with TS and our other Showrunner. The VFX work we did in Ep. 301 with the Ukraine battle is some of the best stuff I have ever been a part of. It's truly a gift to have a job where I see posts like this, knowing I am a part of something that is not only entertaining, but also brings an awareness of current events and how things work behind the DC curtain.
Taylor does his homework when he writes these shows, and also knows enough to employ the proper people who have been there and done that.
Below are a couple before and afters of the Ukraine stuff... Hope it doesn't get me in too much trouble.
Oh, and our local hero Regis has been a bigger part of it this season too!
Edit - Had to take the pics down.
That is a great show!
I don’t know how Sheridan can pump out so many shows and act in some of them to.
Very stoked that you get to create for such a wonderful writer and story teller....
Very stoked, indeed.
Dude, the drone scenes you've made and the way they convey the new terrors of war are, quite literally, something everyone needs to see and contemplate.
Thanks Manny! I usually get bored of each episode after the 30th time I've been through it, but I could watch the Ukraine episode as many times as I did without ever getting tired of it.
I will say this world is bananas when it comes to work. TS put's in 14-16 hour days, every day, so we do the same. It's a meat grinder for sure, but the quality of the product makes up for all of the time spent. Shit, I just realized I haven't had a day off in 7 weeks. 😆

Y'all did not screw around on the opening show.
I was glued to it instantly and was bummed when the credits rolled. I knew it would be that way, so I was going to wait so I could binge it, but I only had the willpower to wait a week.
The show's been awesome, and the story has been really compelling.
The pulp fictionesque chronology is slightly irritating, but I'm sure there's a good plan.
Great work, Travis!
After episode three, every scene with Joe when she isn't in her "situation" is a flashback, the rest of it with our cast is present day. That should help moving forward.
Oh, and Karl, Johnny edited 307, the second to last episode of this season. He did a great job too, that episode is a bit of a barn burner!
Lioness.... rang a bell, so I looked it up.
As I thought, it's the hyper-DEI Girl Boss "Special Forces Chicks" with spaghetti arms and classic features and tight little butts -- all of them of course, not a single big-assed knock-kneed flat-chested 260-pound "marine" who can't run a mile in two days like in real life -- TV show that almost caused a fist fight between me and my best friend in Tennessee.
He was watching it back in September 23, after about 5 minutes I asked him "...what the fuck are you watching, Phil? Female SEALS and HALO drops and long-range sniping?" He was brought up by a TV set, like 99.9% of Americans, by the way.
He got VERY annoyed at me. He was a F-14 RIO in the early 80s, life-long USN loyalist, has ZERO concept of the infantry or SF world.
"TS" as avid name-dropper here refers to him, has written some excellent screenplays.: "Hell or high water" is one of the best movies I've seen in the last decade.
"Sicario" and its sequel too. One of my co-pilots a few years ago had taken a DEA job while on furlough from the airlines after 9-11. He has a PhD in Psychology and is extremely imtelligent and also very physical. I asked him about Sicario, he said "...that's exactly how it is."
10/10 for "TS". 👍
Landman is entertaining, as is Tulsa King. Lots of excess testosterone, cock-measuring and tough-talkin' and Botox, but.... entertaining.
Yellowstone...... meeeh..... cowboy tugger fantasies.
This "lioness" DEI Girl Boss updated version of Charlie's Angels is LAUGHABLE. PATHETIC. Soft porn tugger fantasies.
Do you know what "rhetoric" is? the study of writing or speaking as a means of communication or persuasion according to Merriam-Webster dictionary.
Rhetoric includes things like "positioning' in films -- Apple products, Coke products, etc..... I saw David Carradine and Rob Schneider drink Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in "Big Stan" yesterday. Now THAT, I don't mind!
Fucking subliminal commercials, pure and simple.
Some messages are a baseball bat between the eyes, MANY or MOST are subliminal.
Like the Girl Boss in this dreck -- with her cuckold Beta male SPECIALIST doctor house-husband at home back in DC while she's slaying the bad muslims in the Afganistan mountains, with her spaghetti arms (I'd like to see her run a few miles with 60 pounds on her back and a FN MAG above her head) and pouty lips and rosebud titties. White dork daddy, "brown" killer-bee mommy, latte-colored precocious spawn.
GEEZUS H..... how cliched.
Any social engineering messaging there? Or do you think that's a typical DC swamp terrorist-fighting nuclear family?
All the "leader" steely-eyed killers on the "team" are gorgeous model-type chickies, including the "Blackhawk pilot" and the "recon marine" (complete BS by the way) etc.... and all the sidekicks are male model types, and the "puppetmasters" OF COURSE are Morgan Freeman with his "velvety" voice and D-Day from "Animal House".
"TS" as avid-name-dropper calls him, isn't gay or a Beta Male or a cuckold.... doesn't appear to be, anyways. So what's with the estrogen-fest "female SF killers" bullshit?
If you play it backwards, do you see some titties and bush?
Hey name-dropper.... ask "TS" how many days straight he has marched with a 120-pound pack on 1 1/2 cans of green beans and sweetcorn? Or how many days he has walked patrol FOR REAL in 100-degree heat with no water?
I have, and he hasn't. Neither has any of his tugger fantasy killer skinny chicks.
Maybe he should have paid me for some accurate input, or any of the tatted-up bearded podcast vetbros, eh?
R Lee Ermy is dead, bummer. I bet he is spinning in his grave.
Geezus.... do y'all sit and tug to this 'MERIKUH FUCK YEAH!! war porn? Besides the utterly ridiculous premise of a bunch of killer chicks destroying muslim baddies in the mountains and the deserts of Asia Minor, the suffocating social engineering DEI messaging is overdone and nauseating. .
Do you even NOTICE the brain-washing and BLATANT messaging? The RHETORIC?
If you think watching Delta Force Charlie's Angels is "thrilling" and "exciting"..... maybe you need to go see your medical professional and enquire about some T-shots, eh? Lay off the soy milk ferfucksakes, you're growing titties!
But hey..... stick your nose up against a TV screen for 9.4 hours a day, that's some serious edumacation!
Flame away..... after you take your T-shots.
Hey avid name dropper.... tell your chum "TS" to do the same. WTF happened to him? Someone threatening to "me too" him?
Someone needs a hug.
That's quite a diatribe.
Hint: don't watch it.
I don't think that running around in full gear eating creamed corn and beans would be very entertaining, but that's just my opinion.
When Lioness first aired and I watched the trailer for season 1...
...I though the same as 'wake-da-fawk-up' wrote above...
...a little tiny actress is not going to be believable in that role...
...so I passed on streaming it and re-watched other Taylor Sheridan written movies and TV shows...
...like the two Sicarios, Landman when it came out... ...one day I happened upon Hell or High Water...
...that is one good movie, I have watched it several times.
This summer I got bored and watched the first two seasons of Lioness...
...like seemefirst said, the real version of Lioness would not be entertaining...
...it was okay, I haven't watched the third season yet, will wait till all eight are out, then binge it...
...I can see what 'wake-da-fawk-up's is saying above in regards to the, "social engineering messaging"...
...not Taylor's best, but it is entertaining.
I will say that scene in season one, episode one with the A-10 was good.
Well…to be fair…this all started with an honest & obvious acknowledgement…in my OP…
And, yes, it''s "A made for TV thing"...
We are all allowed our opinions, Man. Your's seem's a little angry for a discussion about a T.V. show, no?
Just so I understand, when you describe the “actual fucking terrifying sound” of a drone swarm “coming at you,” are you claiming that you’ve personally witnessed that type of drone attack on a battlefield?
What the fuck is wrong with you? EVERY FUCKING TIME…you pull the same shit.
As for what I’ve witnessed, which is obviously so far up your…well…you know what I mean…I have witnessed training and war games in this new environment and it’s fucking crazy. It’s Trench Warfare from WW I combined with fucking Star Wars. They can follow you into what you may think is cover…but, it’s not. Hardened Shelter is the new requirement.
This shit is changing everything…the ground war…the air war…the war at sea…
Beyond that, and as I’ve even pointed out in my OP…I’ve read accounts…even a few papers…on the changing dynamic of war as brought to us by the war in Ukraine. All of it…Fugly as it gets.
That episode I wrote of aligned with what’s being gathered from the war and other shit going on in the world.
Capisce?
Next, you’ll ask me if I’m implyimg I’ve been “in” hybrid warfare…🤣
Must have been a whole group of people that pissed in your cereal today. How is someone that angry over a TV show. You ever hear the saying, If you ran into an asshole today, you ran into an asshole, if everyone you ran into is an asshole, maybe it's not them.
Why in the world would you want to trash someone else's work even if you don't like it? Did you get personal gain out of it?
TM
If you’ve followed Avid’s history of work…it’s not the 1st time someone’s taken a piss on his work…either in here or in the trades…or in the press. 🤣
And I’ll guarantee he’s aware that the world is full of opinions. Hell, his product is praised and berated by “the experts” all the time…from Variety to NYT.
And I’m willing to bet he’s someone that doesn’t care about any of it. 🤓
Pit Row
Pretty sure Travis doesn't need me to say anything but he's good people. All my interactions with him have been nothing but respectful. As I often post things 180 deg from other peoples opinions, he could have shit on my post more often than not and has never done so. Which is what makes the board fun, different opinions and respectful discussion with a bit of poking the bear. But what I don't get is why someone for no reason takes the time to type out a post that does nothing other than shit on someone else. Maybe you get a little extra squirt when you rub one out after, who the heck knows?
TM
Actually, a pretty entertaining rant. Your Bill Burr shtick takes some....getting used to.
Ah, thanks guys! I have a pretty thick skin, and to be honest I am invested 100% in every project I have ever been on, even "Dog with a Blog" though that show was downright terrible. 😆
I read the good and bad about my shows, but since I don't write, produce, act in or direct these things, my feelings are rarely hurt. Taylor bucked the Hollywood trend and went and did it his way, so he doesn't get a lot of love from the critics. I'm sure you can guess how he feels about that.
I grew up in this business and I watched things my Dad had a big part of just get absolutely roasted by the critics (anyone ever see "Clan of the Cave Bear"? 🤑. He'd just laugh and say "Welp, that's just their opinion."
This place has been my distraction while waiting for shit to render for over 20 years and 90% of the posters here bring some good perspective and information to the table. Even though we've all had our "WTF did that guy just post" moments, it's all just one giant fire pit to bullshit around.
You gotta admit, the Hollywood DEI does trigger the bullshit alarms for assholes like me who want some realism in serious stuff. They have been at it since I was 12. Every white husband in every goddam commercial is a doofus. Thank you for Sicario and Emily Blunt's character for what would happen if you put a woman in that scenario. She spent the whole movie either looking confused, scared or crying. Duh!
While you might aspire to someday actually be an "asshole" I've yet to see you achieve it. You'll either have to work harder at it or just give up on it. 🤣
TM
I get what you’re saying…but…
Her character is “looking confused, scared or crying” because the operators that the movie is truly about are playing by a set of rules that shit all over the law as she knows it…and then she realizes she’s the lackey that’s simply assigned to the team to give them legal cover…and then…then she’s PISSED.
Hence, the closing scene where she’s forced to “sign off” at gun-point.
Well, maybe not asshole but I am a movie snob. Sort of an asshole. I have trip wires that prevent me from becoming immersed in a story in movies of a certain type. Movies where the story and realism are really important . Mars Attacks or the Fifth Element? You can enjoy those movies without paying any attention to the story. Shawshank? It's the story and I never hit one tripwire. My own snobbery keeps me from enjoying many movies and shows. Speed was a good example. I made it about 30 minutes into a movie that most of my friends raved about. I kept running out of wire. Movies that weave in and out of reality better be really really good in some other way or I'm out.
That was a pretty weak ending for such a good movie. But she did end up crying. Can you imagine her making Alejandro cry by pointing a gun at him or making him falsify a report which cops do all the time? She didn't belong there because she was a girl. Alejandro pointed that out. She also couldn't take the shot because she realized he was right. That's why the movie worked for me. It was at least realistic in that way. Another, more woke, director would have had her pull some Kung Fu moves on him, pin him to the ground and either cuff him or just scare him into getting his paper signed by somebody else.
Big difference in giving an objective view point and just wanting to shit on someone/something for self satisfaction. You and I both built custom machinery, we solve problems differently. Showing each other what we built, I'd bet a pancake breakfast that neither of us would say to the other, "that's a terrible way to do that". You know women watch shows too, if your goal is to make $$s, why not create a show that's going to appeal to the other half of the population without diluting it enough to not be entertaining to the male population? For the few percent of overly critical males you'll lose, you'll pick up more than 50% of females.
TM
My wife thought Charlies Angels was stupid. I think she just didn't want me watching it. I think a big draw for women is relationship movies but how the hell do I know what women want. Mine left me.
Ah, the predictable Manny tantrum….
It was a simple question. You described the “actual” sound of a drone swarm “coming at you” like you had experienced it firsthand. Now you’re saying you’ve witnessed training and war games. Okay, which ones? When? And in what capacity was a civilian who runs a composites company invited to observe modern drone-warfare exercises? Nothing ‘classified’ is needed to answer that.
I ask because you do this fairly often. It’s the same with the way you’ve talked about performing forward air control. You phrase things so people are left with the impression that you were much closer to the action than you ever actually say. Then, when someone asks exactly what you’re claiming, you blow up.
There’s nothing wrong with being a knowledgeable civilian. But observing training, reading papers and knowing military people isn’t the same as enlisting, wearing the uniform or doing the job. Sometimes you seem to want the credibility of both without clearly explaining where one ends and the other begins……
Ray Dawn Chong FTW!
