I know it's early but checked weather.com and it's showing a 40% chance of rain on Friday and a 60% chance on Saturday for Daytona Beach.

could it be...should make for an interesting first Daytona SX for me.

May have to invest in a submarine to cover that event if it's like that again!

I was there in '08 when the skies opened up unmercifully. I certainly prefer a nice dry Daytona track. But, if it does rain my money is on 22 because he rode that Yamaha to death (literally). He put on an unbelievable mud riding clinic that night. Seth, enjoy your first Daytona. Get there early and park in the infield. It's a fun day. Look for me, I'll be the slightly drunk white guy wearing a motocross t-shirt :-)

Here's a hint...there's a chance of a mudder at every open stadium. Wink

You do realize that the weather changes daily in Florida right? What's the old saying, if you don't like the weather in Florida, just wait 15 minutes.

They open the tunnels that lead to the infield. It makes the journey from the track back to your food/beer source pretty easy. We usually make quite a few trips back and forth during the day. Watch some practice, beer and burgers, watch some practice, beer and burgers, repeat as necessary.

You sir are correct. I usually wait until the morning of the race before I start worrying. Also, your Airplane II reference makes me laugh every time.

Lived in Florida for 7 years and every year we went to Daytona. It's still one of my favorite races of the season. We always took something in case it rained because you just never knew what to expect.

There was a time when there was no pit pass for Daytona unless you were connected on the inside, you could just roam the pits and there was nobody there. The racers were way more laid back and easy to approach, plus you could just sit on the pit road wall and watch.

We went to Tampa I believe in 96 when Larry Ward won the main event in a Torrential Downpour.

Airplane I & II are classics!!!

Dude it's Florida...there is always a chance of rain for the most part.
I wouldn't worry about it being a "possible mudder" til the track is actually muddy.
You could have a 40% chance of rain and it rain like hell 2 streets over and never see a drop of rain on your house/track. Smile

It's 89.4 °F here today.

I have been to both dry & rain infested Daytona's and I prefer dry by far, but I have seen some of the best racing in the mudders too. As far as snow, the only SX's I remember with snow were Minnesota, Missouri and Indy, they were all indoors.

Same here......I dont like watching mudders at all but a mud race is better than no race.....I usually skip the rounds that are/were mudders over me-ya, its pointless IMO to go to a SX mudder and spend all that dough to watch a bunch of mud covered bikes and riders foot pedal all over the track, cant tell who's who and it isnt even about racing more like surviving and getting points IMO it doesnt have much appeal to me

speaking of the muddy daytona, reed had that thing. that had to be heartbreaking after his performance. everyone touts windham as the best in the mud because of A1 and Daytona, but reed was the one that was over a minute ahead with 3 corners to go.

i hope it rains it's fuggin ass off this year, i'll be on my couch with a 30 of busch light watching it on my 55" hdtv

been to every one and the only one that i can think of that didn't at least rain or snow at some point in the day was '03.

the problem is that it's so bitter cold. last year was miserable, i was that idiot that decided not to bring a parka or rain jacket. but i was also the one that sat until the whole thing was over, interviews and all.

Such a "old skool" '90 - 2000 track would be cool ...

We will be going again this year. The weather this week down there was perfect. I will be so pissed if it rains and the track is a mud hole. Lots of money going into this trip as usual and it would ruin it for me. I want a fast, rough, tricky track. On top of that we will be there doing some photography which won't happen if it rains.

Dude...we have cancelled riding trips because the "weather man" said it was going to rain. Then the weather becomes magically perfect. I wouldn't trust them until a day or two before the races.

It's the same here. We live by the beach and it could rain all day 5 miles down the road and never sprinkle here. Usually if it does rain it's over fast. I know Daytona can be the same way. As far as weather people go, they can't get it right the day before most of the time. I wouldn't put any trust in what they are predicting 8 days from now.
