The Mystery of India's Lathe Turned Pillars

Some of India's ancient temples contain massive stone pillars, many standing over 15 feet tall and weighing several tons, yet they are so perfectly symmetrical they look as though they were shaped on a modern industrial lathe.

Their smooth, mirror like finish and precise circular grooves continue to puzzle visitors and engineers alike.

Most historians believe they were created using large, manually powered stone lathes, but no complete examples of those machines have ever been found.

Whether they represent lost engineering techniques or simply an extraordinary level of craftsmanship, these remarkable pillars remain one of the most fascinating and mysterious achievements of the ancient world.

Hwy 129. Better know as, the dragon.

This is not too far from being in my backyard.

Run it on both two, and four wheels more times over the the past 25+yrs than I can remember.

Best run from the N.Carolina line, back into Tennessee. And right around sunrise, before the traffic hits it.

Also makes for a wicked night run.

The trick is, running it hard without crossing the double yellow line.

The Grand Canyon is pretty insane when seeing it in person. Pictures or seeing it on tv doesn’t do it any justice at all.

One of my longtime friends may he rest in peace. He was a legend--Damon Ducket of Acton Ca. He built the sidecar himself. He was a machinist and such a great guy. He had a track around his house. The way I found him it was destiny as I was on a lost desert ride one day with friends. There's more to the story but I will not post it here..... 😜

I would spend many weekends out there as I was attending Aviation school and could no longer afford to race, but this provided quite the fix to keep me going.

This picture is going off the drop off at Carlsbad Raceway, they raced sidehacks one year during intermission and Damon and his good friend Joe Brousard holeshot the race, it was on ABC but in typical Damon style, he crashed out early but ended up finishing.

One day Damon asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. So I reluctantly said, sure.

OMG! It was quite the harrowing experience and eventually jumped off as I did not know what I was doing and we're going off double some drop offs and I could not take any more, it was very physically demanding on the arms. Damon was laughing his ass off! 🤣

Used to see a few at desert races, never at a true motocross track.

Just after the entrance to Carlsbad, there was a "motocross road racing" track off to the left.

They used to have night races during the week.

Saw a few running around that course.

Holy cow, that is wild. It's like the run would never end.

Really surprised they're running full knobby DH tyres.

Urban DH needs a dedicated tyre.

Something like a 2.7 version of the old, Ritchey speedmax semi slick.

A sad day for the Big Bear Eagle community 😢

They had a solar powered webcam, high above in a tree to watch these two proud eagles raise two different sets of eaglets. It was awesome to watch. Especially when the nest was covered in snow and one of the eagles would take turns to keep the eggs warm.

It was amazing to see dad and mom go out and hunt fish and bring them back to the nest to feed them. One time they even brought a small snake.

For nearly 14 years, Jackie lived her life in the skies above Big Bear Lake. Then, her story with Shadow captured the hearts of people around the world. People watched them every day, waited for their nest, celebrated the arrival of their chicks, and prayed for them during difficult times. But this year, Jackie’s life took a difficult turn. When she was found sick, experts did everything they could to save her. Despite a blood transfusion, oxygen support, advanced diagnostics, a CT scan, a bone marrow biopsy, and continuous medical care, Jackie’s condition could not be stabilized. 💔 On August 10, 2026, Jackie took her final breath. 🕊️ Her death is not only a loss for Big Bear Valley… It is also an indescribable heartbreak for the millions of people who had watched her life unfold before their eyes for years. Jackie taught us that even the life of one wild animal can bring people from around the world together. ❤️ Jackie is no longer with us today, but her story will live on forever.

RIP Jackie......

We're so lucky to have eagles around here along the Tennessee river, and lakes, as year round residents.

We see them on a regular basis soaring overhead.

Yep, it's official, the world's gone mad now. The new thing is to get a shot and slapped for $30!

There's some female bartender claiming she makes 6k a night!
