Saw this on marketplace and thought it was a interesting listing. Not sure if the bike is legit, but seems like a decent package deal for the right person.

Did KTM starting routing the throttle cable behind the bars because they saw Dowd do it?
Thats a cool find.
KTM was doing that for years before that, I worked at a KTM shop for almost 20 years, I looked back at my old racing photos, in 2001 they went to bars without a crossbar but before that they still ran the cable between the bars and the cross bar down the left side of the frame.

I owned an 03 250 SX .... what a steaming pile of shit that was . I'm sure if that was Dowd's it's setup better than mine was though lol .
Yup, I had one too, very narrow powerband for a KTM I got a 2004 as soon as the came out, They gave it a great motor with a lot of torque again.
Another fault with the 2003 was the metal clutch plate were breaking all the time if i was too hard clutching it but you had to because of the narrow powerband. I'm not hard on a clutch except for that year.
Weird how the guy only wants to sell the 4 bikes as a package deal. Sounds like he doesn't want to sell them very bad lol.
Scariest 250 2T I ever rode...
Wasn't Dowd already racing a 520 SX 4 strk. by this stage?
If you add up the prices generously you get to about 20k also and he’s acting like it’s a steal and half off at 20k
I think he raced that the year before. I was in grade 6 at that time so I could be wrong.
"Where did you put him ricky? I don't know it was fucking grade 6, I was drunk"
I failed grade 6 seven times, I was drunk half the time and growing dope.
My cousin had a 02 KTM 200. We were doing a local race that was right on a riverbank in November, snowing sideways. He was very meticulous about his bikes, cleaning, working on them, you name it. He hit a turn right by the riverbank at the start of the race. Bike goes wide open and launches 30 feet out into the middle of the river. Come to find out when he set the tank it pinched the side of the cable, when he turned just that extra little bit it sent it wide open.
Bike was maybe 2 months old. Luckily for him a bystander tossed his wallet and dove in head first and helped him drag it out. My dad flipped it upside down, pulled the plug and started pumping the kicker. Flipped it over and fired right back up.
Yes in 2001 he was definitely on a 520 and probably had half the holeshots from that year. There are a lot of 01 outdoors motos available on YT
If I remember right he was having problems with the 4 Stroke hydraulic clutch back then because the slave cylinder got so hot he couldn't use the clutch properly , when it cooled down it was fine, so I think that's why he switched to the 2-stroke. I heard he was looking for someone back then to make him a cable clutch setup, just like Eli did this year.
The age of the various old logos being period correct (Moose, renthal, etc) lead me to believe it's legit; AMA tech sticker looks right but could in theory be faked but I'd say it's unlikely.
What a neat find, would love to see the porting and carb work they did on it.
