North Shore Racing 1989 cr125 MXA test

August 89 mxa tested other shop bikes in this issue. 89 DG rm125, Race Tech yz125, FMF cr125 I,ll add later. The 89 cr125 was ahead of its time. A Very fast & bullet proof bike. Today it’s still fast & the bike to race in vintage. image 88

Nice read.  I didn't realize Eric Gorr was the motor builder behind NSR.  I found the HPI motors to be faster than previous generation ATAC back in the day.  So much so I can't decide if I want to get a mid 90s CR125 or a late 90s YZ125 for my son when he gets large enough.  Maybe I should find one of each.  lol

Looking forward to the other articles!

I didn’t know NSR was Eric,s either. My 1st bike I bought on my birthday 11-18-89. A 87 cr125 with a NSR hill climbing engine. It was quick & Very strong. I stacked 2 & tried 3 base gaskets to move the power up. I added a DG pipe & it was faster.

I bought an ‘89 CR 125 that had a full NSR race engine. Was a local pro, last name was Hayden. He got hurt racing it at the Detroit Supercross back in ‘89.

Pro- Do you remember that kid? He was from Brookfield.

No I just bought my 1st Mx bike on my birthday 11-18 a 87 cr125 with a NSR engine built for hill climb competition.  It was a mid range rocket .  I stacked 3 base gaskets to move the power farther up.  92 I got 2nd against mostly 500,s at Wi. Rapids Super deep sand then with a steep cliff hill climb. I ran out of time to get the leader.  Check out Mike Brown at fox hills this yr on the 89 cr125.  Sooo fast.

Yes- It was Jim Heyden. I remember when I bought his 89 CR, they had a brand new 1990 CR at home, but he completely gave up racing. Masch bought his trailer, it was one of those v shaped trailers..

The 89 was soo advanced at that time. In 90 I rode with Chad Parker same name as Trampas the world champion. He was on a 89,, he won in 125 c rt away then moved to 125a.  Mike Vander plas 125 a rider had his 90 for sale at the Honda shop.  He broke his wrist at Detroit sx.  Local races had full gates if he didn’t win , his wife would be screaming at him.  He,s part of the reason Johny Greaves quit Mx and raced trucks.  Mike was a fast indian win or crash trying.  Greaves still races trucks he hired McGrath for racing.  Mc ate at Los banditos in Green Bay I dated a bartender yrs ago from there.  It was a big deal MC coming to town and signing a contract.  I was at Walmart the next yr a couple had Crandon race jackets on.  They said McGrath got his 1st win and was Really excited and happy.  MC bought a clean 90 kx125 at 1 of the off rd truck races.  It had a Dyno port pipe rare for Wi. Most had psi pipes 89-92.

What class were you racing that had 125s and 500s together? You weren’t old enough for masters yet.

Greaves quit MX because he got sponsored by Toyota to build and race their trucks.

Anyone else try a 90,91 seat base on the 89 cr125 ?  That flatter seat would b the ticket. IMG 5819
