It’s about Jett not being the type of personality built for this particular type of relentless pressure - on and off the track, where winning isn’t simply enough to make it stop.

He lost the “what’s his name” high road he was trying at HP, and completely cracked in Saturday. We are 5 races into what will be years, likely the rest of both their careers of HD being there being HD with everything that brings.

His opposition has raced and won at the highest level, 450sx, 450mx MXoN and Deegans just come out of the 250 class. He's doing fantastically at the moment but he's got a way's to go before he's like some kind of cyborg who's relentless pressure is too much to handle.

Of course they were both raised to race, that’s a given.

Jett has never dealt with this side. He’s been the golden child and media darling and the most any riders really gave him was Ando but Ando wasn’t really a threat on the bike - and def not in the media/social conversation.

Well so far he looks pretty silly because he hasn’t even led a lap….looks like maybe deegan can’t back it up

Sigh.

Never said he did. You are enforcing my point but just not grasping the concept.

Might be too much nuance for Vital.

Has deegs ever felt with riders of this caliber? He’s use to the 250 guys who one moto can holeshot then next moto be 17th. Now he’s racing guys who have more pace AND get good starts 95% of the time

We get the point you are trying to make; it just doesn’t hold much water.

I’m sure Deegan is well versed in the social media side, although I’m not sure about true mind games with a close competitor.  In the 250 class he was clearly better than everybody for the last two years; I don’t think he really gained advantage over another rider who had the capability to beat him.

Using the mental/mind games aspect can be valuable when trying gain an edge but when you are consistently 20 seconds off the lead, and haven’t led a lap let alone get close to winning a moto, there are other things you need to work on.

Yes Deegan finished ahead of Jett in moto 2 but Jett has lost motos before.  If it becomes a regular occurrence for the rest of the season then it might be a worthwhile discussion but right now it’s nothing.

You are mostly getting the point - but my original post wasn't even really about Deegan doing anything.

It's about Jett dealing with this particular type of pressure and annoyance.

It does not matter where Deegan finishes if Jett, by Jett's own doing, is fumbling even slightly because of this combined pressure - the injury, a stronger Hunter, and the Deegs circus.

If flipping Deegan off and crashing trying to come inside him aren't small but sure signs of that, no matter how small, not sure what it would take.

Deegan loses by 20 seconds and talks shit like he won, the media eats it up, and the narrative stays Deegs vs Jett for another week. Deegan is used to a 50/50 split of people hating or loving him, and I truly don't think any of that phases him. Jett's too nice a guy, and he wants results to be what matters, and my personal opinion is, that it's rattling him a bit to go up against a guy, beat him, wish that silenced the other guy, and have the other guy and media carry on like it never happened.

You are taking one data point, while simultaneously ignoring the previous nine data points, and proclaiming your hypothesis is correct.

Show me another five or six in Deegan’s favour then we can talk.

Hopeless.

Heard from friends, db and Mathes so I’d bet he had them off recently. You will still argue I’m wrong though like you are with multiple others.

Nobody could have predicted that he would mentally break Jett without winning a single moto. Jett hasn’t been the same since Q1 at High Point. It’s been a steady meltdown since then. Facts.

Might be too much nuance for Vital.

Here’s some nuance for you: different people engage differently; Vital’s no different, and certainly that applies to the pros. You seem to be giving a lot of weight to the concept of social media praxis having some value outside of monetization. Or perhaps I misunderstood the nuance: are you saying Jett can’t handle the heat from Deegan’s posts?

Do you remember when he was getting relentlessby booed by American fans at SX events? He copped loads of shit on social media during the same period.

You have your head so far up what's his name's arse you can't see that the thing upsetting Jett is the fact his injury prevents him from riding the way he wants to.

It's got piss all to do with Donger.

'flipping Deegan off and crashing trying to come inside him'? What 'race' have you been watching mate?

Leaving aside your personal fantasies, your overall take continues to be incredibly bad. Deegan wouldn't even be in the top 10 of things bothering Jett right now.
