Seems like it should be simple.. maybe it is, maybe it isn’t.
How do you mix yours?
2026 YZ125, running 33:1 oil mix.
I’m looking to try VP Octane improver.
Treat octane booster as fuel and adjust your oil ratio accordingly. In other words, if you added 33 Oz of additive, you'd need one more ounce of oil to remain at 33:1. In practice, this is a very small amount of oil. You will probably only be adding a few ounces of additive to the fuel.
BTW, why the additive? Is it easier to get than race fuel? Poor octane standards where you live? Do you have a higher-compression head than stock? without one or more of the reasons above, you won't need additional octane.
Here are the mixing directions from VP:
Directions & Treat Rate
For Gasoline Vehicles Only
So, we are talking a maximum of 1.6oz booster per gallon of fuel. At 33:1, you are going to need to add an extra 0.048 oz of oil to account for the extra 1.6oz of booster in each gallon. Good luck measuring 0.048oz. 😁
Or, put another way, if you do not add extra oil to account for the booster, your ratio will change from 33:1 to 33.4125 to 1. Basically completely negligible.
Is your bike detonating without the octane improver?
