The owner and some guys were up there when they heard some rumbling and run to another roof.

I don't get how people can rag on this guy for at least trying to build something the rest of us freeloaders have only dreamt of...

This track made me and my riding buddies seriously happy. This was something we all looked forward to do every second week or so. Based on the numbers of riders present every day and weekend I suggest this was a success.

But the guy doing this probably had tons of flaws, so let's focus on that and be happy for this track no longer existing. Hurray!

This is a moto-forum?

I think the people who don't like him are the one's who got screwed on the membership deal. There was a lot of them. I used to go there almost everyday to shoot pics and always heard people bitching about it.

Bashing MX and the only place to ride in the winter, WTF is up with that MXWIRED? Every time I have been to Mototown I have had a good time. This time of year I would rather spend $60. on a indoor MX track then on the ski hill. I hope they can turn it into a place to ride. Say what you want about Mototown but it was the place to ride in the winter. Very sad day. Only good news is that no one was injured.

I love the"your only a kid" BS lines from adults. Hey Sparkalounger, have YOU ever met the guy? If you haven't then why stick up for someone if you have no clue what your talking about? Oh just because he's a kid and doesn't know what he's talking about. Right on BIG GUY! Like you said its a public forum, and everyone has a right to their opinion. He was fairly accurate IMO.

Back to the Mototown owner, he's a prick. He stole thousands from people, some of them very close to me. He took $1800 from a buddy of mine, for a membership, and close his doors 2 weeks later. IMO the only reason that place was half decent was the NEMX organization, they did what they could.

I spent a lot of money down there and always liked the tracks. It was a great place to go when we had 3 feet of snow. People did call it a shit hole and said it was dangerous because it was too hard. The fact is, a track is what you make of it and yes it's going to suck when you try and ride a hard pack track with sand tires. I run intermediate and sand tires all yea long, but the stock yamaha front always went on before I went there.

Sad to see such a great idea go down like that. But it was a long time coming.

Hey Chris. Speaking of other tracks, do you know what ever happened to MX365 in Bellingham? Did they ever open?

I just know / have been business partners with more than one promoter and one thing is consistent, people love to hate promoters...
You always here it... the promoters are the dumbest, greediest, arrogant, self serving, bad operating people out there. It is impossible to run a business and not piss someone off and usually that person will, out of anger, exaggerate their story. No one ever hears the "other side".

I am not saying he is an angel or that he didn't any of what you said... just that are are two sides to every story.

The only thing i can know for certain is that the North East may have just lost an indoor moto facility. Thats not good for MX or this guy ( and his investors?). I don't see how anyone can be rejoicing at this...

I agree completely, there are always two sides to every story. Moto or everyday life I do not like people who take advantage of the people that support them. Whether it was poor business that got him there or not, it's never right and it's not what we need in our sport either. It's a track that in the end was usually more of a headache than anything, which is why I stopped going.

Thank god that no one was in the building when it went down. We lost our scoring system and tower in the incident. My buddy Vinny lost his brand new trailer. We can replace all that, can't replace people, so thank god!!!!

We were there yesterday getting ready for our upcoming event on Saturday, Feb 12th. Boy we lost a great, fun place to ride.

No it never happened and I guess they never even poured the concrete for the place. Wonder if they collect money like it was asking for on their website for memberships?

I'm glad the guys on the roof got off safe.............This should reinforce the "any day could be your (or family members) last day" theory...............
I can't imagine the amount of work that is required to open an indoor MX park.
wow.

Too bad. They had a very different idea with them being open 24/7. I know at MX207 about a year ago they had a table setup with the design and information about the memberships.

i was there yesterday with 3 of my friends ...we were talkin with the lady that collects the money and we were joking about the roof collapsing with her ...they were clearing the roof yesterday all day ....on a truss style roof the load has to be evenly distributed...i belive they cleared one whole side which most likely helped bring it down......if it happened yesterday me and 100 other guys coulda been dead ....

Unless there is something else other than the photo in this thread, it's a typical metal building structure with beams and perlins. Not trusses.

When you have a use like a indoor track, column spacing is held to a maximum distance, and that puts the structure at risk with above average snow loads.

Yeah, I'd say. Tony made something out of nothing, and Tommy from Mototown made nothing out of alot of something. This place had the goods to be a jewel in east coast motocross. Mismanagement fucked this place like a $2 whore. Really sad, I have some bittersweet memories of my son and I, at that place

Yeah, that's the most important thing right now. I don't care about all the BS going on about the owner. He might be Osama or even George Bush. This place was the coolest thing I have ever experienced as a rider in terms of tracks. The idea to run inside when its snow outside makes a person living in Scandinavia (and in the US) to giggle.

You have any idea if this thing is going to happen again? I would be amazed if it did...

Well, we had fun for a while, but we are probably better off, sure a bit depressed but with those fumes I seriously question the health aspects since the ventilation system wasn't adequate...

Its like taking a cigarette once in a while I guess. It's bad, but it's soo nice! Wink

Wheres the snow? In Calif we get 6-10 foot in a storm. That place must have been a POS. The inside pics look like a cheaply built roof with some walls to hold it up. If that thing couldnt hold that minimal amount of snow, it was destined to collapse anyway.

I ran the oval bike/quad program for Tommy. The oval was added because it was about trying paying the bills and the mx wasn't enough. I'm not blaming the riders/fans that supported it, just stating the facts. The taxes, electric and heat bills (when he had it) were overwhelming. Great concept except for the empty $15 million mall attached. Mismanaged yes, micro managed, yes. We had 2 large oval events planned, guaranteed money makers and Tommy D couldn't comprehend it. Tommy D stiffed the flat trackers out of year end awards! Promised jackets and #1 plates. $3500 would have taken care of all the kids and adults.........
Think of it this way. It's your high school prom, you end up convincing the prom queen to dump the class president and go home with you. She wakes up in the morning and runs out never to talk to you again! Mototown, we experienced something that won't happen again but we got the good memories

It is a bummer that there is no longer a place to ride here in New England over the winter.
Whether you liked Tommy D or not it was a cool idea.

I announced there during the NEMX indoor series.
My son raced and rode there quite a bit during the off seasons and as MX455 said, the tracks were what you made of them.
At least we could drive an hour and ride since I can't afford to go down south.

Glad no one was hurt as that could have been much worse.

Where'd you hear that from? Thats awesome if they do!! Are they planning on building an outdoor track? I heard something about it but it could be a total rumor...
