Wow they make it look easy. Not sure how soon you'd get sick of something like that, give me a dirt track with jumps anyday!

Thanks, the slash 4wd ultimate sounds like a go-er. The team associated ones look good also.

Should i purchase it straight from traxxas? or is there a hobby shop in the u.s that would deliver to Aus with minimal fuss?

I dont think there's much of a racing community around here, just mucking around in the backyard and mx/bmx tracks.

Id look around on the internet of a local hobby shop and check it out. If not check out some of these sites and see if they do international shipping. ebay works well too if you find the right seller.

For a charger ive heard great reviews on Onyx 230s.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTCK1&P=7

and you would need a balancer for the lipos like this

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMRZ9&P=ML

and ive gotten my lipos from here and ive had pretty good results with them. they are really cheap.

If you really want a traxxas, then go with the slash 2wd for sure. The 4wd slash is cool for a while, but if any dirt gets in the driveshaft, it wears out and is done before you know it. I got hurt from moto and have been racing rc cars for about 2 years now and have had all kinds of rc trucks. Ive had the best luck with my Team Associated SC10 RTR (Ready to Run) truck. Its the same concept as a traxxas slash, just a different make. Ive had it since the beginning of summer, have ran it almost every weekend and during the week, and only have had to replace 2 parts on it. Its the simplest, fastest, most reliable rc truck ive ever had. In my opinion they are built wayyyyyy better then traxxas because its made stronger for racing, rather then traxxas being made just for someone to see how fast it can go in the backyard. And when you buy batteries, get a 2 Cell Lipo. It will run a 2wd for about 25-27 min, and a 4wd for about 20 min. And the good thing about them is that they will go all the way wide open until they are dead, rather then a traditional battery with multiple cells slowing down for the second half of your run. But in the end, if i were you, i would get a SC10 with a couple batteries and a charger and you'll be good to go and i guarantee you'll be hooked.

If the SC10 battery tray is similar to the B4.1 & T4.1 (which many chassis & suspension components are) I have a pretty awesome 5000mah/20C/3S/11.1V Li-Po that will make that SC10 walk on water! I run the 5000 / 11.1 in my Brushless B4.1 & T 4.1 and it's serious fast.

I know Traxxas supports "our" sport.....but it would be one of the last RC cars/ trucks I'd own.

This is coming from someone who raced the 1/8th offroad buggies and truggies , and 1/10th electric 4WD classes.

Traxxas does not make a competitive rig in any class. Not a bad basher rig....but if you get into any type of racing....traxxas is not a brand you will end up with.

Right on. I use the 5000 in my T4.1 and it is crazy fast. Great time for sure. I am going to turn my riding buds on to your site tomorrow RM. They are crazy for their rc's. It is a good time. I want to run mine on my pitbike track but my grass is too long right now for my 2wd. I want one of those SC10's because that is what they have all ended up with after having most of the top models of the other brands. Nice mackerel by the way in your avatar. I have not seen you around as much on here. If you are in my area anytime let me know and we can tie into some big fish.

I just bought a Associated sc10 brushless with the Rockstar body. The rtr is 245 through tower hobbies. Its a good platform to upgrade in the future. I have been out of RC for about a year. You can't go wrong with traxxas though.

TOBZ,

Here is unbiased need to know info for your R/C addiction. I say addiction because it will soon become one, trust me. First off, amainhobbies.com will be your best bet for RC, it's the motosport of RC............, end of story. Look for the monthly coupon codes to save a few bucks as well. Traxxas stuff is not bad at all, especially for bashing. You need to narrow down the size of the vehicle, ie 10th scale, 1/8th scale, 1/16, 1/18th etc etc. For refrence, 1/4 scale is the largest with 1/18th the smallest. The most popular is 1/8th scale nitro(racing) and is mostly outdoors. Indoors, 1/10th electric is second to nitro and Short Course trucks rule the roost, paste the link.

http://www.amainhobbies.com/index.php/cPath/1_44_1171/n/RC-Cars-Trucks-…

This class is very popular, 2wd short course. AE, Losi, HPI, Traxxas and Kyosho are the major players, In 4wd short course, Traxxas and Jammin are the lone wolves, but AE is commin strong in a month. Racing or bashing, Short Course trucks are very popular, all electric. Electric in general cost more to start out with(Lipo batteries, chargers, etc), but is easier than nitro for beginners. Hit me up if you have more specific questions. Amain, you can't go wonrg.

Sure, I will hook up all my old moto buddies the best I can.

Basically we run a virtual hobby shop. We handle everything that your local hobby can get you. We are a dealer for Redcat Racing, Spec Point Concepts as well as a few others. We aligned ourselves with a company in the southeast that warehouses over $1 Million in R/C products. If there is anything you want that is in stock here, I can generally have it in 2 days.

As far as a Li-Po charger, there are many out there at so many different price levels. I'd start by looking at the Team Orion Advantage Twin Spec Charger. It's not cheap and it is so versatile. You can charge a Li-po on one channel while charging (or discharging) a Ni-Mh on the other. It is a nice piece, but it's also upwards of $250. Team Orion also makes a nice single charger too, the Advantage Pro Spec. Thunder Power makes a decent priced Li-Po charger as well. The TP610C is a nice piece for the $100 range.

I'll do my best for you guys....

What are you looking to do with it? Bash it or go to a track and race it? For bashing nothing beats a Slash, i have the 2wd and ive gone through water and have no problems with the electrics, mainly because they are waterproof. If your looking to go to a track with it, good luck running with an SC10. After spending roughly $400 on the Slash attempting to get it to handle like an SC10, I finally just bought an SC10 and was amazed at how much better the handling was. Thats been my experience anyways.
I'm running an Associated SC10 at either OCRC or West Coast Raceway on Wednesday nights. It's interesting to see how many moto guys, mechanics, and various people from the industry show up I can think of guys from DVS, Etnies, TWMX, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, DNA Shred Stix / Star Racing / Yamaha, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, Rockstar Energy Suzuki that I run into regularly at either of those tracks.

Steve Cox is also a regular participant...though he got faster than I am. Smile

Hmm...I'm still getting smoked regularly by a five-year-old in one class. Is that bad? Wink

Oops I see the traxxas is RTR but the sc10 isn't.
Think I'll stick with the RTR, there's too many choices of cars as it is without having to choose motors and controllers.

It's more of a race truck, and has tons of tuning possibilities.

Also, it's as cheap (or expensive) as you make it. I bought one of the RTRs, and guarantee that I've at least tripled the cost of the original truck since then. Servos, radios, tires and wheels, motor and ESC...plus shocks, batteries, and other goodies.

Tobz one thing to keep in mind is the charger won't be 240V like we use in Australia and it will have a different plug on it. You will need to buy (locally) an adaptor to suit.

The SC10 is available as RTR in the 2WD version. It looks like you can get the Brushless SC10 RTR on ebay for under $300 plus shipping. Also give RMZ a go and see what he can do Wink

I also race monday-weds-saturdays in Kansas city, Team Associated stuff. I wouldnt recommend buying any RTR as you should build your stuff and learn it since your going to be breaking parts left and right anyways. Lipo battery's are definitely the way to go.

You need a charger and balancer.

The charger that comes with the slash is a cheap overnight charger that doesnt do lipos.

ill set you up one second.

This is a pretty good starter charger Ive heard tons of great reviews about it, it will do lipos nimh nicad etc.

Balancer
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMGS7&P=7

Bannana plugs so you can use that battery thats in the box.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVPF2&P=V

Also i havent had much luck with venom lipos. I had one, my first lipo i spent $120 on(they have gone down alot in a few years) and it puffed after maybe 20-30 runs. Called up they replaced it and then like 5-10 runs later, dead.

I have 3 zippys/flightmaxs from hobbyking.com

1 has died but the other two are doing good after a lot of runs.

I can find some suitable batteries if you want to go that direction.

You can also just run the battery in the box to get used to the truck and order batteries later.
