So is the game worth the 40 bucks? Ive been playing the demo for about 2 hours now, and it seems somewhat legit. Is there a track editor though? Or should i just spend the dough on motocross madness?

I love it, It takes some getting used too on how to download bike skins and stuff but it comes easy to most. The best thing about it is it is constantly updating with new bikes, Tracks, and Gear.

Yeah, there is a track editor. And a site dedicated to tracks (puremxs.com). And the creator of the game makes all the supercross tracks (Anaheim 2 is already up).

The meat of the game is in the downloadable add-ons like tracks, bike models, and skins. But to actually play the game with arcade mode off is a test in focus. I crash so often it makes me motion sick.

Is it worth the money? Only if you have the time to put in to not crash endlessly.

That has got to be the most honest review of that game ever

I completely agree, I have no idea how these guys go an entire lap without completely wadding at least 6 - 10 times with arcade mode off. Is it worth $40? If you are willing to invest the time to get good at it.

Bought it yesterday. Played the demo for about a week beforehand and got used to the physics. Really fun game and the free downloadable content is the cherry on top. You definitely have to put in the time to get good at the game. No doubt about it. I can run solid laps now if I dont try to throw crazy whips and scrubs. I've been playing an hour to 2 hours a day for the past week. Having the right settings definitely helps as well.

Do you only get to play in first person, or is there a user view too?

I'm a PS3 Reflex addict and know nothing about this game. I'm assuming it's a PC game.

As far as controllers go, will my PS3 controller work via a USB connection or would I need a PC specific controller?

Any (honest) comments on how it compares to Reflex? No PS3 v XBox v PC pissing competitions pls Wink

its a lot different than reflex from what i can tell. You can download the demo at if you put mxsimulator into a search engine and find the website. From what i can tell theres a ton of ways to mess w/ the handeling once you buy it though.

I bought MX Simulator about a 5-6 weeks ago. I played the demo for a few days and hung around the MXS forum for a while, and decided it was worth the $40 with all of the free track and skin downloads. Didn't take long to learn how to download and file all of that stuff, actually pretty easy. I thought I was doing pretty good, I could kill the computer AI on "expert" and felt like I was ready to go online and race. Then I discovered that I'd been playing the game in "arcade" mode the whole time.

Turning "arcade" mode off was (is) an exercise in patience and frustration. I truly thought that the game was impossible to play and the whole thing was a big joke. There is no way this is possible to rip around the tracks like some of these guys in the videos. Then I started tinkering with the bike and stability settings and realized that it was "doable". You have to take baby steps with this game. You have to start by simply trying to do the entire track without falling, then take it up a notch at a time

I started by trying to master the easier tracks, and then working up to the more difficult ones. I've now eclipsed most of my old times set when I was playing "arcade" mode. That being said, I'm still not even close to playing online yet. It's all I can do to beat the AI set on "easy".

I've said this on the "gameroom" forum, but I'll repeat it here: This is NOT a game that you'll download and master in a week. It is very challenging, but that's the attraction to me. It takes time to learn how to ride and set up the bike. Then you've got to learn the technique of actually riding the bike. If you truly want a "realistic" motocross game, this is it. The only thing it lacks is terrain deformation.

I personally like the Xbox 360 controller, actually I bought a generic 360 controller for about $25. It plugs right into your PC and works flawlessly. I played on the keyboard for a while, but that was pointless. I'd suggest checking out the MXS forum if you are serious about buying the game, those guys were pretty helpful to me.

uk, have you checked out the MXS forum for a solution?

http://www.mxsimulator.com/benchracing3/

Seems like lots o' computer guru's on that site, I'd be willing to bet that somebody can remedy your problem. May be as simple as updating your video/sound card drivers.

Yes you can use any Controller you have that will work with a PC. PS3, 360, PC controllers, a PC steering wheel..... PS3 controllers are a little tricky to get working, but if you search on the MX Sim forum you'll find what you need. I think its the motionjoy drivers that work best...

It's for PC only, either Windows or Linux. There are people running it on MAC's under bootcamp or something of the like.

Honestly, you can't compare it to Reflex. It's a different concept all together. In MXS you steer the bike, you press (not hold) left to initiate a left turn, then you press the right button to keep the bike balanced as you go through the corner. In Reflex you just hold left until you don't want to go left anymore.

Graphics wise, Reflex is fancier in terms of shadows and environment, but MXS is able to run at a much higher resolution, and graphics improvements are still in the works, as is the whole game. I paid $40 for it early in 2008, and have gotten 3 years of updates, and new tracks for free. During that same period of time I've spent $130 on Untamed, Reflex, and the track packs. Trust me, I've played MX Sim way way way way way more. Makes me feel like an idiot now that I think about it. LOL.

If you have any questions as to weather the game will work, or your controller will work just download the demo and check it out. If you need any help use their forum, someone will help you out. Smile

For the Mac users, check out Wine for OSX
http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX

It allows you to run .exe files, such as MXSimulator on Macs. I haven't been able to get a controller to work yet but I'm getting pretty good at using the keyboard.

Mstock, I'm sure that Logitech would work. Not sure how much they are, but as I pointed out in an earlier response, the xbox 360 controllers work flawlessly. Must be the Microsoft thing, I'm not sure. I literally plugged it in and started playing, no downloading drivers or anything. Mine is a generic 360 controller (about $25 at Wal-Mart).
