Got this in a message from a Marine buddy who doesn't know much about sx/mx. Pretty telling of what the average "fan" thinks IMHO:

"What's up with motocross? I don't ride but I like to watch. I've been watching this race for a half an hour and there hasn't been one race yet. Is it faster paced in real life?"

kill all references to the pit "party" to make room for the racing.

and the lame rider profiles too like the awkward golf trip with roczen

I don't even have cable, but I can imagine what you're talking about. Some schmuck falls in turn one and they zoom in on his dumbass for 2 minutes. Meanwhile, there is TONS of passing and shit going on in the RACE (which is what we want to see).

They must not have that many bills.

If they have to feed us 35 minutes of commercials during a 60 minute show it'd be nice if more than four companies were paying for ads they shot with a Handycam. It's a relief when there's a professionally shot ad in there from a company that usually has nothing to do with MX.

Ok lets take inventory of the facts:
1. The SAME people film & edit the Speed and CBS broadcasts.
2. Vital members hate the CBS coverage compared to the Speed footage.
3. We want every race and practice session in it's entirety for free in HD.
4. No commercials.
5. Naked 30second girls.
6. Ralph couldnt wipe Despain's hairy ass.
7.

When those who buy ad time on these races, have nothing to do with the industry, is when the sport is taking a step in the right direction.

I'm a slow starter in figuring things out sometimes.....but I'm starting to see / understand why some core fans hate watching some of these races.

Soooo tired of the monster commercials , flat bill wearin' , mx vs atv soundtrack music , monster truck crowd type stuff.

This is what happens when a great sport gets to commercialized and brings in this type of crowd.

Don't get me wrong.....I love the racing part.....it's all the other "sizzle" I could do without.

No body is watching lap times. If they had a guy dedicated to lap times they could inform the commentators where the races are developing, and allow them to really call the race instead of chatting. The Mains are too short to spend any time just hanging out, talking.

I could swear that Stewarts heat race started about 3 minutes into the coverage?

Feld would rather bank on the crashes to sell tickets then racing.
Did you guys see the commercials with all the crashes?
I bet they showed more crashes then actual racing...or close to.
The dumb-asses at Feld do not realize that showing all those crashes to market the sport is bad for the sport. If they showed James pulling up at the stadium in a Ferrari or being handed checks on the podium, that would be much better. Wink

The average Mom & Dad watching all those crashes will never get jr. that pw50,however they might buy a ticket. Wink

Just because the CBS and SPEED broadcasts are done by the same people it doesnt mean that there done the same way, in fact if you pay attention you'll notice that the CBS coverage is clearly directed at the layman, someone who has little or no knowledge of the sport. Speed on the other hand assumes that anyone watching is more educated about the sport and wouldn't benefit from the hand holding and supercross 101 b.s that saturates the Cbs coverage. The reason that feld pursued the Cbs deal is because they want to fill seats and to do that they have to find new customers who have never been exposed to Supercross before and make them fans. The problem is that to do that they have to ignore or at least not cater to the hard core fans that built the sport.

The coverage is terrible to anyone who understands, has participated in and who loves the sport, its just hard to watch it get butchered so badly.

The avg person is NOT going to buy a dirtbike because they see JS pull up in his ferrari or whatever but you're right about them being less likely to buy one after seeing all the crashes.

Obviously, CBS/FELD/whoever does not care about the growth of the sport (and why should they?). They only care about ratings. Crashes make ratings.

Therefore, if any of those racers REALLY want to help the sport, they need to start crashing more. RV did a commendable job of doing his part by crashing several times yesterday, as did JS.

I vote that we get REALLY creative with track design to increase the rate of crashes, as a way to boost TV ratings. Instead of simply putting whoops of death and huge jump combos with rutted faces and landings, why not have jumpst that MOVE?? I mean, one lap, the triple is 75 feet and the next lap the landing moves five feet to make it 80 feet? I know we have the technology to do this so let's make it happen!!!! I want some excitement and nothing screams excitement quite like a guy flailing through the air and being chased down by a 230 pound motorcycle.

I'd like to see more video from the ER too. Think about it. There are even entire shows called "ER". What better way to boost ratings than to film what happens to the guys who get carted off the track? We could see the x-rays of their shattered bones and disfigured bodies. Exciting shit!!!!

They say that you can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time but I'm convinced that no one can please "core" moto fans ever at anytime, in any place, for any reason, and under any circumstance.

Speed and CBS could show three hours of moto with all the passing and racing, no commercials, shots of 30 second girls in slow motion, and you would STILL complain about something, be it Ralph or Emig, or a wrong camera angle, or the fact that the audio wasn't to your pleasure. You're like Glenn Beck, you never have anything good to say and when you do say something, it's so stupid it leaves it hearers baffled in amazement that there are actually that stupid of humans walking the earth.

I don't care what commercials they show. I understand why they need them and some of the fluff. If this is what they're going to do then I'd like to at least see a 90 minute program that included both heats and the LCQ.

I know the average Fat Joe Channel Surfer from Sugar Tit Kentucky isn't going to buy a dirt bike because James pulls up in a Ferrari LOL,my whole point was a bit more elegant marketing, rather then looking like a bunch of idiots wadding it up. Billions of people are ignorant, and when they see a commercial that is 90% crashes, they will think the entire sport is about crashing (when the sport is about racing/training/meeting your goals & challenges/success/lifestyle and much more.).
They will think,if little jr. gets on one of them dirtbikes and twists the throttle he is gonna go somersaulting 50feet through the air (people really think like that). LOL Wink
Fly by night ratings will not help the sport any....it will hurt it more in the long run(seen it happen in boat racing worldwide for a while).

The crashes during the races at least show what led up to the crash and how big they were going etc......It helps explain to the public a little better of whats going on.
It shows them on the podium with results etc....

They have a circus marketing technique that really doesn't factor in long term success.
