I’ve used it on black plastic trim to bring the shine back, but it just ends up attracting dust not long after. Never used it on painted surfaces though. Just buy automotive specific products, not like they’re hard to find. 

I use it as tire shine and also on black trim pieces on some of the older vehicles in my fleet. I get it super cheap, otherwise I'd just use auto specific, but it does work. 

I’ve sprayed my entire dash/radio area, there’s other stuff that works better though on the outside
