I have been involved in the dirt related biz for over two decades. In addition I have some interest in geology. I really don't understand why the dirt mixes that are going in and out of the SX stadiums every year cannot be improved. This year a lot of dry dusty hard tracks that really don't showcase the strengths of SX bikes or racers. In most every area of the country there is access to diff soil types. That includes the SLC area and the SW in general which I have driven and explored 100's of miles of. I say this not to brag but to make sure flamers understand - yes I have been there, done that. I work with soil. I know elevation and climate in some areas affect moisture retention, but can't you be prepared and plan for that? There is some soil in the foothills around in SLC, etc to mix with the clay and sand. Not all tracks shouldn't have the same soil profile or layout, but I know they can do better. BTW I applaud the equip operators that run the skids, dozers, etc

SLC is the worst venue and dirt on the circuit. They need to remove SLC from the schedule

Every round appears to use fill dirt.  Based on the visible rocks during JTs whoop review, it's not even screened.   I doubt they pay for/invest in soil, more likely its from local builders or in the case of SLC, from the mine.

It’s insane. They could get saw dust from local cabinet companies for free, they could get top soil from any farms that are cycling out dirt it’s so easy.

People here do it on the cheap for backyard tracks and get good dirt and great conditions and these fucktwats get construction gravel with rebar and bricks mixed in for the SmX wORlD championships presented by porky the pig and diffey.

Feld isn't gonna spend a nickel more than necessary to put on the show.  Keep in mind that the same dirt is used over and over year after year in a lot of the venues and it is also used for the Monster Trucks.  They won't buy new dirt until the old stuff has turned to dust and won't hold together.
