Trying to prep my 26 FE for race in 1.5 days' time.

Im having issues getting my 260mm spring to fit on the Shock. It comes with a 240 mm but is WAY to soft for my weight. So I need to put the 260mm spring from my 24 FE on.

The problem is the upper collar doesn't clear the reservoir, so it won't go up enough to give the 5mm extra clearance to squueze the spring on and put on the circlip and lower collar. I only just managed to get the 240mm spring off.

Should the screw-type upper collar go past the reservoir? Currently has about 4 turns of thread left.

I can't answer the question about the upper collar but If I had to get a spring on I would get a set of strut compressors from the auto shop and squeeze the spring a little to get it installed. You are going to have to take the shock off the bike to do it but it should be possible.

The correct length spring for the shock design, is 240mm +/- 5mm. Very tough to fit longer with the Xtrig collar. I have fit 247mm as well as 250mm springs to PRODUCTION shock with standard collar however the design length is always best bet. Time for new spring!

Going to need a spring compressor regardless with that adjuster.

Thanks, team. Called my ex suspension tuner friend and turns out he used to be a WP Dealer/tuner that used to look after Chris Birch, amongst other top NZ guys, and he has an old WP dealer lever tool that compresses the spring on the shock (off the bike obviously), 1 minute job to swap the 48 for a 54.

Bike and rider sag now well in the ball park.
