Wow, the epitome of function over form.

A couple of follow up points, as far as prices these days. My first Honda 125 elsinore cost $740 out the door. Today's bikes in comparison... ridiculous.

And the EPA, and other regulations they talk about...

That killed our beloved muscle cars, and V8 engines. Engines that we could actually work on. Just recently replaced the alternator on my V8 4runner.

A three hour frikkin ordeal.

Would havd taken 10-15 minutes on a small block Chevy.

Cars and bikes, of all kinds, are made with planned obsolescence in mind.

Biggest problem we'd have with a bike like that in the states, we're spread out too far.

That's a badass machine for urban jungles, where everyone else is on the same thing.

Yeah, suburbs keep those from being the main mode of transport in the US.  Even the newer CB300R should be flying off the showroom floors at their current pricing.  This thing is ridiculously cheap.  It might not win every stop light drag race, but the fuel savings alone for most city commuters would be incredible and the longevity of the bike would let you spread out the cost over 20+ years.

Gonna take a stab at getting one of the Pakistan models with the OG motor and enclosed chain. Think I’ll have it delivered to a farm in Texas…

I figured you old phucks would appreciate that video, and the bike also.    After starting out on a Taco clone with a Briggs 3.5hp, centrifugal clutch and the brake was a flat steel plate that rubbed against the rear tire,   the first 'real' motorcycle I ever rode was a CB-100.   Neighbor kid had it.  I was in heaven being able to use a clutch and shift gears,,  can still remember the feeling the first time riding with real gears.  It was honestly like magic to a kid in '73.   There is no video game or smart device that coulda made a kid happier than that Honda did that day.

Its like the narrator mentioned in this video,  those old engines you could redo the ignition literally with a blade screw driver and Moms fingernail file.  What made me smile to myself while watching that video was I literally gapped points on my CT-70 with a matchbook cover too because I saw Dad do it on Moms '72 Vega and it worked fine.    Oh, and always keep a spare condenser around,   just in case.

I wonder how a person could buy one of those things from overseas and bring in here?

So, a buddy of mine and 2 other guys he knew found old WWII replica German side car motorcycles from China. I guess the Chinese bought a bunch of tooling from Germany after the BMW plant got 86'd. Anyway, they didn't have to go through any other kind of red tape other than hiring an import broker, pay him and whoever was selling the bikes, and they were delivered to his shop.

I don't think it would be that hard to do. You would probably want to order it from a country that wouldn't need to go through the straight of Hormuz though. 😉

Best case: get one in a crate and have it shipped here as “ag equip parts” or the like.

Worst case: have one taken apart and shipped…in parts.

Most likely: I’ve got a friend with a motorcycle rental business in Thailand…I’ll have her get one and ship it back/bring it back in parts. Might even go there myself and do it. Same can be done via Brazil or Argentina.

If it works out the way I think it will…I’ll let you know. Getting one of the classic versions with the enclosed chain and points ignition sounds like the ultimate, right?

Now that I think about it Manny, the side cars were in a lot of pieces, and that may have been a work around.

If we wanted to go Full Stupid and fill up a “mini” and have it shipped…(the 1/2 sized container)…we’d probably be able to get it shipped to Mexico/Baja and unload it there and drive/ride then across.

Some of you probably think me and JAFO are kidding. We’ll see…

Now that The Donald is involved, haters need not apply. They’d get so angry that they’d fuck up the thread.

But, I digress.

OK, gotta go see a guy about some VERY PRETTY HRC parts…seems our VERY PRETTY YMC & KMC parts have riled up the Factory types. 😉

Y’all have a great day and keep our troops, sailors, marines, airmen and women & all their supporting civilians over in the gulf at the front-of-mind.

That is a classically beautiful bike. I know that those who have never swung a leg over a bike probably won’t understand the sentiment as clearly, but everything about the look of that thing screams ‘work of art’.

How difficult to actually license one?  Is it similar to cars where you have to wait until it’s 25 years old or something like that?  Even Bill Gates couldn’t grease enough palms to get his 959 licensed without waiting for the time limit to come up.

In California, if you’re creative, you find the info needed to register it as a “self built” (I think it’s via Bill AB 100) and you get/cretae all the correct  info to make all the numbers work out (usually vin/id #s and the like…you really just need to know what the numbers SHOULD NOT look like).

Most of the bikes were talking about should have fairly “different” vins and ID numbers that you should be able to make them work.

I really want the older models that are very “CB” looking and are probably 10 plus years old with old school bins.

As for the “classic beauty”…that almost Triumph come Norton look of the above pictured Pakistan model…you’re absolutely right…pure art in the most classic sense. Same could be said for what Royal Enfield makes with their classic singles and twins. Kawasaki did this a while back with an 800(?) twin that looked VERY British.

Older Pakistan models I’m talking about. I’ve got someone looking into South American models of similar vintage/build…also, notice the different motors…I -ONLY- want the geared cam/push rod motors (pictured).
