You can probably get the article in the Cycle News archives - it's only $4.99 per decade - https://magazine.cyclenews.com/cycle-news-archive-issues-1970
No results, just good memories.....my father and I were there. I was a wide eyed 16 yr old and it was my 1st time at Unadilla.... it was incredible. The weather was cold, wet and snowy when we got there, the crowd was rowdy, I was a Hannah fan, but it was wicked cool seeing Decoster in person.
Unfortunately, the Cycle News archives is missing the issue that has the results.
Wasn't that the year that Hannah and Decoster got together swapping paint?

Chuck Sun ( Husqvarna) had excellent series as did Darrell Schultz ( Maico).
They were definitely swapping paint at that race. I’m pretty sure they crashed into each other, and Hannah’s pipe got dented badly. I don’t remember which moto it was though.
Got it. I'm surprised, I thought they had them all.
Saddleback one year they slammed each other all moto long.
Didn’t MXA do an article on 1978 Unadilla Trans-AMA? I remember reading a great race report somewhere..
Woops, I think that was actually Howerton.
Was there too. Freezing! We were at one point standing with our backs against the fence to the pits watching, turned around at one point and Roger DeCoster was standing right next to me. My 8 year old self was mind blown but did get an autograph.
It's very very rare that they're missing one. I'm been slowly going backwards through their entire archive, and this is only the second missing issue I've encountered. The other was for the '82 Pontiac Supercross, I believe, but I was able to pull the results from the Racer X Vault.
I've looked for that issue of Cycle News in the past as well and I believe it is the October 18th, 1978 issue.
I attended the race as a 9 year old-- but boy do I remember it! I was in the section where Hannah and Decoster collided. I've mentioned it many times in some of my posts like "favorite MX memory" and "favorite Unadilla memory" and similar.
I was in the section with my brother, my Dad and my Uncle. My Dad was recording on 8mm- and unfortunately with 3 minutes per roll you filmed sparingly those days...
Still the best MX race out of several hundred that I have been too-- with MXDN's at Unadilla '87 and Budd's '07 being up there... Hannah of course made Unadilla '87 awesome and although Ryan Villopoto had no competition at Budd's in '07, I dont think I ever saw anyone lay waste to a track and gathering of talent like that day...
I might drop Cycle News a line about that issue and/or hunt one down on E-bay...
That race was my first of many times at Unadilla, I remember it snowing, I think during the 250 support race, I think Broc Glover was in the race, I forget if he won, I probably have that hard to find issue of Cycle News in my attic somewhere to see the race results. If I get motivated I'll look for it.
I was watching the moto where Bob and Roger hit and Bobs pipe was smashed (second Moto I think) from up by where the riders drop into Gravity Cavity, If I remember correctly it happened in the old dogleg corner on the other side of the track around where the Skyshot jump is now before they headed down the hill to the bottom of the valley.
I said "I Think" too many times but it was a long time ago. lol
That was the second pro race we attended live. Remains the best I’ve seen. DeCoster 2-1/Hannah 1-2/Noyce 3-3 if I recall. I will see if I can find the program. The entry list was stacked. Only big name that wasn’t there was Lackey. Check this link for an overview of the series

The Cycle News archive from October 18, 1978 surprisingly missing . If anyone has a copy please post it.
Tripes 12th 3-37.
I believe Gassin' Gaylon Mosier lost his life riding his bicycle on the road near the track. Rip
Thanks for posting. Gotta ask Kit Palmer @ CN about that archive issue.
