During COVID, I started a thread to help Boom and, his family. His country was shut down and, he couldn’t even work to provide. Some asshole called him a beggar. It wasn’t even him that started the thread.

I’ve chatted with him a bit and, understand how hard it is there. He’s selling his personal stuff to pay for food and, utilities at this point. Since that last thread, his house has been broken into. His wife has been robbed in her car while out getting groceries. A friend of his, that persons wife was badly beaten and, raped. I hate to say it but, simply being white, you’re a target in South Africa.
Yet, he’s not on here begging because of that one asshole saying those things. For those who can help here’s his PayPal. Those that can’t that’s fine. It’s tough for a lot of us. Just leave judgement out of it. No need kicking someone while they’re already down. I’m posting this. Not, Boomslang. He’s trying to survive while working to get the hell out of there.
I’ll repost this along with his PayPal in the other thread just to cover bases.
Thank you Greg.
I would suspect that with your fabrication skills you have a lot of opportunities here in the states.
And that does not even take into account your connections in the moto industry.
Hoping that this turns into a way to look forward to better times than you have been experiencing lately.

It will be a huge life changin event and I'm certain Claire will be able to get a good job in the Houston area within the Oil/Gas industry with her experience. As for myself, I have an in with Star Yamaha / Parts Unlimited so maybe I'll end up back in the Moto industry, but If I'm honest with myself, I gotta say that I'm a bit long in the tooth with working away from home and being on the road. I'm pretty good at fabrication, mostly metal stuff so I'd need to look around and get a skinny on the guys in the area.
There is hope and there are also big challenges ahead but I'm ready and willing to ride the shit out to finally find a forever home.
Happy Easter to you all.
You shouldn’t have a problem getting a fabrication job in Houston with your experience.
Tons of fab and other metal work required in the oil industry, a lot of custom stuff and fairly interesting. Imagine there's plenty down towards the coast as well. Good luck Boom.
I hope you’ve already signed up or whatever you have to do!
Good luck!
So does this mean you're going to end up here in the United states of America ??
🤞
I did a hunting safari in S. Africa about ten years ago. Fantastic folks there and I keep in touch.
My Dad was born in Johannesberg, Republic of South Africa in 1935. His fmily emigrated to the US in 1942 via Holland. Lots of good stories about South Africa from back then.
Yes, there is a legit way in now.
A friend and his family made it through, it took them around 5 months after getting everything tied up. They have been placed in Syracuse, NY for now. They are very confused as it certainly is a big life changing event and they dont know yet where they are going to end up.
You could end up here, there's enough work though. Lots of beautiful sand getting blown around 😉.
Thank you Kevin and Nicholas.
Yes Kevin, that is a huge help thank you.
The coldest I've ver been was when I went up to Hoosick Falls, upstate NY somewhere. It was -19C.....around 2F is think. That was brutal.
I guess one can get used to that.
Where was that picture taken? I'm guessing somewhere on the East Coast like NY??
December 2019 - Jan 2020. My first time ever in snow. That was an eye opener and was a struggle for me. I slipped, landed flat on my back winding myself...that happened so.many times that I lost count.
My front yard ... you can't see but the bay is on the other side of the street. 🤣
Ha, im very familiar with that area. Been through there a few times only in summer though.
The last time I was in the USA was from December 2019 to March 2020. I had to get out of there because Covid hit. Around 50.of us board a plan from Newark to Cape Town. Landed on the 26 March in Cape Town. It was the first evening of lockdown.
The flight was amazing, it was almost empty. The hostess where handing food and booze out like it was new years eve. I took a couple of pictures..we could sleep across three seats or even on the floor. Best flight of my life.
Pit Row
A couple of pictures from my seat on that Covid flight that got us South Africans home.
I love this place from April to late November. I go mental for 4 months. Just got to get through it.
Boom,
I sent you a DM a while back. So you know a bit of my world. Someone sent me a list way back when I needed it that I still look at and pick something to think about most days. I'll scan the list another day (new scanner is not talking to the computer for some reason), The paper is all yellow and worn from hanging the last 15+ years. But the last 5 items on the list are.
22: Do the right things
23: However good or bad a situation is, it will change
24: Now matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up
25: The best is yet to come
26: Get rid of anything that isn't beautiful, useful, or joyful
I like to think our little community has helped you get through a really though time.
TM
Thank you TM, yes, the community has made a positive difference. I'm focusing on the good things that are yet to come.
So glad to see a positive swing in Your life!!! These posts may help others who are afraid to post about being in a similar situation find the hope they need to hold on long enough to get a break.
I hope everything works out well for you and that someday VERY soon You are able to look back on the lowest times and see the lessons You learned, and see how they helped You get to the place You are at that point.
When I was having my thoughts of ending things, my parents house caught fire and I was trapped in the basement. I was in my early 20's, and while trapped I looked out and saw my mother collapse as she saw me pull my arms out of the firefighters hands and go back into the house after not fitting through the window on the first try. She thought that would be the last time she saw me alive.
I lost every material thing I owned in that fire except for a 5th wheel camper (new and empty other than the cheap blankets it came with), the first trophy I ever won , the clothing I was able to put on and grab and a flashlight. My truck was packed up with a lot of clothing for a trip snowmobiling I was going on the next day. And the rest of my clothing and stuff that didn't burn was thrown out the windows into the burning rubble. My parents and I stayed in the 5th wheel at a friends house for the first few days until we could clean up some of the house and get back in. That disaster helped me see the positives in more things. And vowed to make something good come for every bad thing. It hasn't been easy, and I still have bad days like everybody, but that frame of mind has helped me get through some really tough times and turn some bad stuff into ok or really good things. I started out by trying to think of good things and avoid the negative thoughts . Not avoid the situations that happen, just try hard to focus on a positive that can come from whatever is going on.
I hope that this rough time of Your life ends up being the catalyst of propelling You into the life You have dreamed of.
Glad to hear the good news. Good luck to you and family !
Thank you Kenneth
You shouldn't have a single problem finding work in texas for the both of you.
I dont remebr how much oil industry stuff there is but with ur fab skills and mechanical skills.
Go to north Carolina. Huge NASCAR, race car fab shop scene out there paying well.
