Down here in Bakersfield again.  Made a change in gearing and will try out the 2-speed.

Good outing this last weekend.  We put a little taller gear in it and I used the 2-speed transmission.  Some good consistent runs on Sunday’s 1000ft course:

5.84 et @ 149.97   /   5.78 et @ 149.78

1st Round Win (I broke out, but since he didn’t leave the line in time he was eventually disqualified)

Yeah, he would have dug it for sure.  Talked to one of his good friends yesterday who's been around the sport a long time.  He said the same thing.

He also said, "Glenn's giving you a good boat"  It's still a beast, but the hull / prop / gearing / motor are all working together.

I looked forward to driving Sunday.  All 6 previous runs the unknown (because I was brand new and prop changes) was a bit of a mindf*ck..  We ran a new combination Saturday and didn't change anything Sunday.  My lights are improving too.  It was a good day.

If you knew the crowd of “Delta/Disco-Bay Back In The Day Misfits” that some of us are…the name would make perfect sense.

Cool pic photographer sent me.  A lot of torque spinning that prop roughly 73% faster than engine RPM.

Saw "Panic Mouse" many times at Long Beach Marine Staduim when I was a kid.

Was the world record holder at the time, "Blown Fuel Flat Bottom"

It's been a minute.  Most importantly, miss my Dad so.  He had a lot left in the tank, but God and Cancer had other ideas early last year.  A lot of fond moments though; anytime I pick up a tool he used, I use it with honor and reverence and think about the countless hours in the garage we spent together.  Also, when I get a chance to mash the go-pedal on the Hydro, I know he's along for the ride and smiling. He was a big Drag Boat fan, contributor and participant and introduced me to the sport at an early age.  How fortunate for me to be involved with Motocross and Drag Boats as a kid riding with my Dad to the next track.  Loved it.

Got the boat out this last weekend.  Getting more familiar with each and every outing.  Right off the trailer for our first run of the season we laid down a good number (in 1000ft): 5.82@157mph with a 0.123 reaction time.  Anything below 0.200 is competitive in my class.  Think about this, you're 125ft. behind the starting beam, there's a countdown clock (and it goes fast), you put it in gear and mash the throttle on a number that will get you to that starting beam (that's 125ft away) when the countdown clock hits 0.   No easy feat, but us Moto dudes have an advantage I believe.  Smile

We ran into some minor (relatively) transmission problems late Saturday and weren't able to run eliminations on Sunday.  That's racing!  Overall a good weekend though for the Driver (me) and Boat.  We'll be back.

- Time Slip: Look at the speed differential from 660ft to 1000ft.  These Hydros accelerate hard past 1/2 track.

Top Fuel Hydros (Nitro) back in the early 80's were in the ~200-220mph range.  Full 1/4 mile, no capsule, and evil handling.

My Dad went up to one of the younger drivers and said:

Dad: "You must need a wheelbarrow"

Driver: "Why?"

Dad: "To put your Nuts in"

🤣

Awesome thread. Thanks for reviving it. Sorry about your dad. Pretty sure he's right by your side all the time. My brother in law restores old Rogers boats and they race competitive jet series (APBA). Mostly my nephew was driving the last few seasons they raced. My nephew held the #1 plate for several years. I know completely different discipline but also a huge adrenaline rush. Have fun brother.

Just got this beautiful picture and probably my favorite so far for a few reasons:

1st run of the day on qualifying day in morning/good air conditions last month (5.82et/157mph).  It was a very “easy” smooth run with minimal input on rudder. Shifted into high gear about another 100ft. down track than I normally do. Even shutdown (chop throttle) after run was smoother than all previous runs on boat.

Didn’t change anything on boat (engine settings, prop) other than me shifting later (and we’ve had good air conditions on a number of previous runs too). Telltale Tach showed 8000 rpm (same as previous runs); a safe 400 rpm under the rev-limiter set at 8400 rpm.

One of our best elapsed times and our fastest top-end speed by 8mph.  Definitely believe shifting later resulted in an even better handling boat. (not that it was bad before)
