I'm not a new rider but this seemed like the best place to post this question.
I'm looking for some advice on what bike to buy this spring. Cost isn't an issue so I don't care about top end replacement, valves, cams, and all that junk that seems to be on every thread I read. I just sold my '03 RM125 and '07 CRF250R last summer so I have experience riding and maintaining both 2 and 4 strokes. I just want to know which would be best for MX.
I'm 5'10" and weigh 180lbs. I raced my completely stock CRF the past two years in the B class. I loved the 125 I had but it just didn't have the power to keep up so I didn't race it.
The thing I always found myself wanting from the CRF was more low end. I don't know if I was too heavy for it or what? Obviously a 125 is out of the picture. I don't really care to ride on the rev limiter that much so I was looking for any suggestions on what bike would be best. I'm stuck between a 250 2 stroke, a 450, or possibly a 250f with mods to increase low end?
I've ridden a 250 2 stroke once on a gravel road, and a 450 some in a corn field but neither on a track so I don't really think I can make a decision on a racing bike from the experience i have. I noticed the 250 has a lot of low end but it hit hard and revved out fast. I've read about flywheel weights to possibly broaden the power? The 450 seemed to have TONS of power everywhere, but i was riding it on flat ground in nice loamy dirt which I almost never race on. It felt a little bigger and heavier and i'm worried that might hurt its cornering.
The bike I buy will be the one I race this summer. They all seem like good options I just have no experience on a track with any except the 250f. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
