Drove down from atl this year for the first time in a while for daytona.

The crowd seemed massive... is this the norm for daytona? i can remember it being sparse on broadcasts in the last 10 years.

sport seems like it's in a great spot.

We drove down too. It was absolutely packed. Great time to be a SX fan.

IMO last year we had two events in Florida, Tampa and Daytona. But this year it was only Daytona. Wonder if that played a role too.

Day in the Dirt is this week, and the GNCC was this weekend, so I'm sure people are driving down and making a bigger trip out of it (more bang for their buck).

Never has been "sparse". I'm local and have attended nearly every race since 1980.

reserved seats sold out pretty early.  i normally buy in november every year, and most were sold by that point.  i don't have number access, but it certainly has grown.

i've been to sx for 30yrs from anaheim to daytona, and it's a special place and amazing event.  if you've never been, go if you can, it's not just another round...

It appears that every race so far this season has had much larger crowds than in past years.

Daytona has always had good crowds but the bike week guys only a small % come to Daytona this early but those that do a good % come to the races plus Some GNCC that race on Saturday make the trek over.

Pro race attendance and following seems to be doing great. Local riding a racing seems to be due a bit.

This is what pisses me off about the commercialization of so many grassroots motorsports.

I see the same thing in dirt car racing, last year at one of the biggest events of the year they had a sell out crowd, and the announcers were talking on the broadcast about how the “keyboard warriors” online don’t know what they’re talking about, because this place is packed so obviously racing is the healthiest it’s ever been! Meanwhile, local tracks are closing down at a monumental rate due to low attendance and soaring operating costs, the average Joe can’t afford to field a car in what used to be the “working man’s class”, car counts are down in every class at every track. Using the top echelon of the sport to gauge its health is the worst way to go about it in something as participant based as MX.

It really makes you scratch your head and wonder when the OEMs and industry companies will wake up and realize that if me and you don’t have a place to ride and race, they won’t have anyone to sell bikes and parts to.

I still can't get over the stat that the entire Daytona grandstand only has seating for 101,500 if at capacity according to "google".  There are quite a few college football stadiums that have more seats (Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, etc.).  On TV it looks like that grandstand goes on forever, can't believe its only capacity of 101K.  Anyway, it looked like a great crowd on TV for sure

The local scene around here (Central Kansas) seems healthy enough.  I mean race entries.  If you or your kids aren't racing you probably aren't gonna get the wife and kids to go stand in the heat, dust, noise all day...more than once any way.
