MXA Shootout KTM 450 vs 350 on the dyno. The 350 didnt come into its own until 11rpm, as they said, its a very fast 250 and a SLOW - 450. It simply doesn't have the grunt a 450 has to pivot and seat bounce and turn a 3-3-2 into a 4-4 and gone section. All that plus its only 4 lbs lighter.
JMHO Hope I am wrong, I am a big Shorty fan.

Regal can't beat Short in SX. Infact the kid will not even get a sniff of the top 10 till there are some injuries.
Regal obviously doesn't have the experience Shorty has...
He is talented and seems to have gotten the outdoors figured out ,and did really well last season in the outdoors.
I do think within time we will see Regal pick things up and do nothing but progress each race in SX.
I honestly think by the end of the season we will see some great results from the kid.

You do know they tested stock bikes? Have you seen any of Shorts interviews?

That is your top 6 right there so Short could be around 7th or 8th....I just think Andrew will come up just "short" of the top 5......but what do I know.......
Dungey fourth? Good one, thanks for the laugh.

Villopoto was not faster than Dungey. Look at the laptimes, they were pretty much equal.

yes of course they were stock! I realize Shortys bike is modified out the ying yang to get more bottom end and I hope it works, but nothing beats cc's. and yes I have seen Shorty's interviews, he is a PR's dream and would never say anything negitive, he's a true pro.
anyway, 7 days until we know!
cheers

I haven't seen mention of him in the top 5 anywhere in SX.....do people forget that quickly how good he is at SX? Pretty sure he got quite a few seconds and thirds in years past.....Turbo
Because not many feel he will be top 5. I like him a lot but that isn't going to help him against Stewart, Villopoto, Dungey, Reed, Windham, and Canard. The new influx of talent and returning healthy riders will push him back in the standings. I expect he will usually be 7th-10th but could get a podium or two with a holeshot and good luck (as in the fastest guys all crash). We'll see, but anyone picking him to be top 5 are doing so with emotion, either for him, KTM, or the 350. It's going to suck to see, but he is going to struggle to keep pace on that bike.

What do you think would happen if Short said the bike sucks, when he is there to make the bike look good? Alessi still talks about how good the 350 is as well. Reed loved his KX in interviews last year before he got smoked. They may truly love it, still doesn't necessarily translate to racetime results.

I thought I heard something about a European guy racing that "underpowered" 350 in the GP's, did he do any good? Just wondered how they did at the Glen Helen GP also?

Picking a top five is just about impossible right now. Let's get a race or two under our belts, and see how everyone stacks up. Right now? It's just all speculation.

Unless his name is Andrewnio Shortoli, how do his results translate to what Short will do in American SX?

What I don't understand is putting underpowered in quotes as if some debunk it's lower power output. KTM designed it to have less power, that is the idea behind it being 350cc! Yet some argue that it isn't underpowered. It doesn't have the power output of the competition, but that's what KTM was going for so there is no need to defend it.

Is a 250 two stroke faster than a 350 four stroke. Which one has more horsepower. Dumb question but a factory 250 two stroke has to be better than a factory 350 four stroke. KTM sells both right.

Someone else with Biff's almanac, although a different version. Will the real Biff's almanac please stand up.

p.s. Another darkhorse. Repeat DARKHORSE - Brett Metcalfe. He's got skills, is consistant, is definately finding his own, is on the best bike out there and rides the 450 better.

Concentrate here.

It's about how the power is delivered, not the overall HP itself.

Bang. If anyone thinks Regal will beat Metcalfe they are in for a shock. I know we say it every year.....but this year will be awesome. So many contenders, so many unknowns.....I CANT FREAKING WAIT!!!!!

I wish Andrew was still on the Honda. I haven't seen anyone in this thread putting Grant as a top contender.

Thats because he is not one. He is a definate top 5 threat but it will probably be another year before he has a shot at a title.

The 350 is a plus indoors.

The point was that the 350 has had success outdoors where the lower HP is arguably more of a handicap, much success. The dyno shows there is a deficit in HP so that is not what most are "debunking", what is being pointed out is the importance of the higher HP on the 450's os not what it seems.

Bullshit

KTM isn't actually racing a 350 outdoors.

My personal opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm sorry, I just assumed that a hopped up450 would produce more HP than a hopped up 350, seeing as the 350 in stock trim has a HP deficit to the 450, stock.

Isn't speculation why we are all here? Lets predict the weather, who will win, who should replace Wiemer, PC vs FMF, podiums etc. LIfe on VItal is all entertainment. I think picking a top five is doable for A1. About seven guys can do it.
