Is that for real? I'd love to read the full story about it.

I'll ask ChatGpt to see what it comes up with and report back here.

Larry Waltersโ€™ lawn chair ride is one of those wild, yet iconic, moments in modern folklore. On July 2, 1982, Walters, a truck driver from Los Angeles, strapped himself into a homemade flying apparatusโ€”a lawn chair attached to 45 helium balloonsโ€”and took to the skies.
His goal? To fly up to 30 feet in the air for a short time, just to get a better view of the world. However, things didn't go quite as planned.
He launched from his backyard in San Pedro, California, but once airborne, he soared much higher than anticipatedโ€”about 16,000 feet! Walters had no control over the flight and had to use a pellet gun to shoot out balloons to try to descend. Eventually, he made an emergency landing in Long Beach, where he was promptly arrested for violating airspace regulations.
The story became a sensation, and Larry Walters became a folk hero of sorts. His stunt was simultaneously reckless and endearing, representing an audacious attempt to break free from the mundane. It sparked numerous discussions about the human desire for adventure and the quirky ways people challenge conventions.
Despite the chaos and legal troubles, Waltersโ€™ lawn chair ride remains an unforgettable moment of daring, freedom, and, to an extent, absurdity.

I read about that story probably in the nineties. Heโ€™d probably be facing jail time in todayโ€™s world.

I remember that, as well.

I think he had it tied to the bumper of his jeep while he was putting it together.

I also heard that when he was arrested, they asked him why he did it and he said something like โ€œ a guy canโ€™t just sit around and do nothing โ€œ
