Maybe the coolest thing i have found on craigslist for free. Mint condition. I love it also because i have a 2006 ktm 450 sx. Anyone know anything about Rex Backman? Thanks.
Looks like he's on Vital... check this reply from @Snoqualmie here: https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/moto-related/motocross-photography?page=1
Found via Google
Yeah, he's been around a while.
Yes, that is my publication... I self-published about 25 or so of those and used them as "Christmas Cards" to various industry media folks and marketing folks in the hopes of driving some activity (i.e. publish some images $$$ 😉) in 2007.
At the time I shot about 6 or 7 races a year. In the real world I had a job in tech that kept me quite busy and on the road all over the world. Really the only way to make a living as a Photo Hound is to be a full-time shooter.
Back in the day it was fun to do. There were really good photographers that were also active on Vital and the other sites: Cudby, Paul Buckley, Donn Maeda, Kardy, Garth Milan, Frank Hoppen, Hal Kennedy, Karl Ockert, @FTE, TOE, GuyB, Roddy Macleod (Europe), @shibaphoto (Japan) and many others I can't think of right now. It was a good community.
There is only so much space to publish photos, create ads, and Media Editors have their stories they are trying to tell. So, as a result SO MANY really wonderful images by the shooters are never seen by the moto public. I really wish there was a way to showcase the artistic talent of SX and MX Photographers. Anybody can shoot a whip but to create a single image that shows human emotion or tells a story is a skill.
To close, of course all of use were beholden to TFS! (If you know, you know).
Rex Backman
Awesome work Rex. I have a freind locally that is a great photographer, has lots of expensive equipment, and has taken a bunch of really good photo's of amateur racing in the area. He made LOTS of freinds at the track from people who wanted their picture taken for free or a discount. In the end, it wasnt worth the hassle, and he'd rather ride his dirt bike at the track than take pictures. Good luck with whatever you are doing now.
