That you go resto mod. That bike is too “right” to go doing black rims and spoke skins.🤪

Does it fit, and, is it remotely straight?

Over the years, I've read, And seen ( personally, when friends have bought them) very little praise of them.

I hope yours is a good one.

I have to say, your 'starting point' bike, looked to be in great shape for a bike of 25 to 26 years of age. A great  find.

Well, so far the airbox fit perfectly.  I'll post more as she starts coming back together.  I did have a pretty good starting platform. The bike was in pretty good shape when I got it.  But dam... what a rabbit hole of parts possibilities lol. Thanks a lot Doc Wob😳

Is that a crack in the subframe on the right side in the L shaped brackets?

Yes indeed - why not!

Though, going Ti pushes you a bit past a basic Resto, Zero!

Me, I've 3 Ti bolts, though, only one at a time, on my CRE- each one holding the Tank / Seat interface 'bobbin' on my std Tank, an IMS 12 litre, and my Aluminium Drop tank I made.

I'm extravagant, I am 😁. Well, no, they were some bolts left over from some MTB Ti bolt kits from decades ago - Freebies!

Keep an eye on the steel inserts on the AC sub, they like to come loose and cause issues.

Absolutely! He did my 23 CRF450R  and it's the best suspension I've ever ridden.

They ( many bike 'builds', not just 500s) do tend to be that : Money Pits!

But, you've got something, that I assume, is special to you.

I can't say I'm a fan of Black tanks, but it. still looks very bloody good!

I wish I could find a Red Tank that matched the 2001 Red. I'd get one , for when when I want to ''pretty up' my CRE500.

I've accumulated a Lot of brand new 01 Red plastics, and  White ( I run the Old Beastie as a 'White Blob', 99.9% of the time ) , in both the original 500, and the up to 2007 250 bodywork that I use with my Alloy Drop tank and subframe I made, and it would be great to have a std tank in 01 Red, for when I want to present it as a Red,  std body worked bike.

Very true about the money pit effect lol. I've never liked the white tanks. They get dingy so fast, yellowed, stained etc. Never liked the white frames either.  Shows every single speck of dirt, oil, imperfection etc. Probably doesn't help im OCD about my stuff either🤣

Total money pits! Might as well throw the money out the window, but a dirt bike is more fun!

Excellent build.
