Joe, what did you ride at Unadilla ? didn't that have a radiator on the forks?
I rode Hubbards 1980 CR125 with the watercooled Mugen engine kit. Radiator mounted out front.

Nice score! back in '83 I had the Mugen race kit on my '83 CR125
Here is a photo of that bike, Taken in the pits at Indian Dunes (rip).
I later added an Ohlins shock. I also ran a Mugen kit in '84 & '85
I remember I also ran a modified mikuni (36mm bored to 37mm) & a
mossbarger reed valve, I think I still have some NOS honda pistons
& rings stashed away.for the '85 model, everything else is long gone.

Hi Mark, I know this thread is an old one, but thought that I comment and maybe give you a little info on your Mugen bike, that you may or may not already know. I believe that your bike was my friend Dave's old bike. He built the bike about 12 years ago if I'm thinking right. So, yes it's a kit bike, that he found some very cool pieces for.

Even as a kit bike, they are still very rare...most of the Mugen kits made during the late 70's and early '80's were very limited numbers; full-on Mugen bikes were much less. I have some Mugen sales documents from two of their distributers (one in the US and one in Sweden) requesting '80 Mugen kits and parts from Mugen LTD in Japan from April of '80; with Hirotoshi Honda responding that the kits were all sold out. Hirotoshi referring them to Baker's Mugen USA where there was more stock of the kits.

They (Mugen LTD) only made 100 kits total for each 1980 model; so I would guess that the numbers for '81-'85 would be the same or less.

In any case, I hope that you are still happy with it and enjoying it.

Best Regard,
Robert D. Hawes Jr.

Thanks, Robert. The bike is now in the capable (to say the least) hands of Chad Watts at his "Chad Watts Perfections" shop. At some point in the future, I will get the call to come and pick up what may very well be the finest constructed 1983 Mugen 125 in the USA.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying another '83 125 Mugen that I'm building here in Florida. Started testing jetting today and hope to have it screaming by the weekend if all goes well.

Thanks for all the info that you shared. I appreciate it.

Here's the one we were working on today:

Hi Mark, that's a clean looking '83 ME125 bike in it's self...awesome to have another one to ride; it should run well and not to disappoint. How exciting!!!

Enjoy my friend!

I've been drooling over these bikes for too long. I finally found just thee right one. 83 with repro swingarm, aluminum subframe/airbox assembly, Excel rims, Pro Circuit pipe, Carbon fiber silencer...I'm pretty pumped.

Now, if anyone can't direct me to some factory suspension or some conventional Ohlins forks???

Old thread but noticed that's an 84 Mugen cylinder as it has the hole just in front of the front cylinder mounting nut for the ATAC which the 83 did not have.
