Speaking from experience? 4 posts....and you know everything huh? I'm 6'-1" and go from 195-205lbs at very minimal body fat. I'll be riding the +30A and +40A classes , so I don't think you can come in here and judge anyone that you don't know.

205lbs? Perfect for the +40 class. Remember, anodized bolts are proven to give you max HP when it comes to the CR500.

You gotta step up off that 1984 CR125 and the beginner class first dumbass. Otherwise....just stick to the trails. Besides....going around you every 3rd lap would get boring as hell.

My CR 125 revs to over 9000 RPMs and I have won well over 9000 races on it. I'll eat vet class riders all day.

Jeffro if since you just got done reversing your decision to not hang it up, maybe you ought to relax a little and just enjoy the bike you just got.

You don't want to buy an $8000 500AF, go tear up your knee and be tied up in all these bikes. That will only make you hate it even more.

If you're just riding for fun anyway, stick with what you've got for a little while at least.

I hear ya Adam.....I'm in no hurry to get one , and even if I do end up getting one , it wouldn't be until next summer sometime.....and that's when I can afford it. I dunno.....i just got a wild hair to go hammer on a 500.....hopefully it won't hammer me.

Why stop at 500cc?? I want a 1000cc two stroke twin in an aluminum frame with a paddle tire and a wheelie bar. ;p

500s are fun, as long as you have some experience. They are a 3rd gear bike, they have the perfect amount of power there........no upshift, no downshift(for the most part). Only reason I sold my 97 was because of the holes I wore in the frame....bored .060" over with an FMF Gnarly pipe and RRP suspension.....sucker was a beast.

Funny how some people mock the 500 in their own way. Even that "Driveby" dummy above ( which I aint calling you that Bullpen....i respect your views ) laugh at people wanting to ride and have fun on a 500.

The two stroke lovin' guys are proud as hell to own their 125's and 250's , and up until 93'.....the 500's were considered THE PREMIERE class! How they could go from being the most elite class , to having a bunch of young guys come on here and bash them , is beyond me. Especially now.....with people stuffing one of those big brute 500cc motors , im a narrow and light 450 frame , and good suspension.

If you think about it.....we have a chance to ride something that is waaaayy beyond what a works bike was back in the day. I think one of these newer perimeter frame 500's would probably ride circles around something like Stantons or JMB's bikes. At least that's my opinion.

it's really simple. the sport has come full circle

the 500 class was purely and "Open" class and was the premier class for a long time.

what is the premeier class today? Basically the 450 or Open class. only difference is 50cc and strokes.

why the pros don't allow the 500 in the pro ranks in this country is purely politics as they would be competitive and would not dominate the class.

The day they allow the 500 to compete in a national pro mx race, is the day i will spend money to go to a race and watch again. it's been a long time 88 i think. LOL our group just stays here and rides on the 4th of july......... i think last year it was a pretty big group...........
