Price tag on that spot was 200000$. Matiss Karro tried to raise that kind of dough, but couldn`t make it. Tonkov has some powerful russian sponsors behind him.

Is paying for a ride a regular thing for GP riders? I've heard of it happening in the US, but pretty minimally.

You have to be top7 to not pay for ride.

Its not quite as straight forward as that though is it. It depends how you define the term 'pay for a ride'.

Personal sponsors/financial backing play a major part in securing contracts for sportsmen & women in pretty much all professional motorsport. Obviously teams look for riders with potential or proven ability but they'll usually lean towards those who can bring something of their own to the party.
