I've used RaceTech, Pro-action, PC and local companies but FC takes the cake. Local is always good, but it can't match up with the amount of R&D FC does. Its worth having to ship suspension to go to them. They are great guys to deal with and their stuff is amazing.
I have used several different companies also, but Factory Connection is the best! Just ask Kevin, Trey, Ashley, Eli, Blake...........

It does make it so much easier having someone local. From watching you ride to making any changes if needed.

Here is my question-- if you ship your suspension out , that company will set it up based on your weight and what you tell them is your riding level and type. This leaves alot of gray area.

It is much better to find someone local that has a good reputation that will be able to watch you ride and test with you to get the right set up.

All the big companies pretty much have the standard set ups for each level. Nothing special just some shim changes that anyone can do.

Now at the top A class level and pro you run into alot more that gets changed.

ive used enzo f/c pr2 kps, i really liked working with will decker, he is a suspension genious! im from nj and the dude gave me his personal sell phone # for any time i needed help or a question! the downside is im from nj... it takes about 3 weeks turn around cause of shipping. for the past 3 seasons ive used f/c on my yams n kaws there setting where sic! i just got a new ktm 250sx n im still trying to get it dialed. sending it back to them tomaro to try a diffrent setting .. right now the forks are 2 stiff n the shock to soft, n needs more h/s compresion.. i def would recomend them though. pricey but good, u gotta know how to talk to the tuner.

JGR has great set ups and their shock dyno is pretty spot on.

Give Tim a call and you'll be impressed with the customer service and settings.

Are JGR prices competitive? I like to hear from riders who don t get it free, Smart riders won t say anything bad about the product they are getting free. I usually check at tracks and talk to local dudes and get their opinion. I would love to try JGR, heard their stuff is really good. I have rg3, good stuff and their customer service is excellent also.

I used to use RRP(rossini racing products)....first bike was great but then he started letting kids work on customers bike....IMHO RRP went downhill then. I then used Pro Action(Reese Firestone out of Delaware). The bottoming resistance was awesome.....never metal to metal but the plushnesss wasn't there....no matter what I did. Then tried Factory Connection....was very plush but very harsh on the bottoming. FC was the worst one for me. I now have RG3 New Jersey(Paul Bruno) and the stuff is top notch. Very plush, great bottoming resistance and very adaptable. I ride hardpack to sand and it's very adjustable. I am not using the smart valves by RG3 but Paul Bruno from RG3NJ really takes prie in his work. Turbo

I use Factory Connection, they turned by 07 Yamaha garbage scow 450 into a killer machine. It made a HUGE difference in my riding too. I liked thier service so much that I didn't even ride my '10 YZ before sending it to the Oklahoma shop. The guys there are real cool and the turnaround is less than one day. I wont ride without it.

Decker is great, especially when you race Millville, as he's at almost all the races. I do sometimes wonder if he really knows what it is like to ride as slow as a Vet B rider! Really do like the suspension, especially the bottoming resistance. The faster I go, the better his suspension feels. Great having a guy at the track - Craig has helped me out many times on race day.

Obviously I'm an Enzo fan, but I would really suggest going with a company that is at the track you race at - trackside support rocks.

Dicks Racing is great for all brands and especially KTM's. One shop attention from a guy who's been doing it very well for a long time.

I'm confused, you have a buddy who is a suspension tuner and he seems to do contract setup for pretty much every major suspension company but you want our opinion on what would be best? Seems to me your buddy should be able to give you the best answer and a kick ass setup with all those options in front of him.

As for me the only tuner I let work on my stuff is Jeremy Wilkey at MX-Tech.

I was gonna go with Enzo but all I ever got was a voicemail when I'd call them. RG3, on the other hand, always answered their phone and provided free consultations BEFORE I paid them a dime. That's why I went with RG3.

I believe any of those companies could make your suspension work very well for you, but the key is to set it up for you (i.e., customer service). That is why I gave so much credence to their availability and support. Plus, they do awesome work!

I say RG3!!

Just the opposite for me... FC has a good handle on how to set up a new gen Honda. Enzo not so much. After spending ALL THE MONEY to get the best they could do, and re-do three times, finally got fed up and went to FC.

All I can say is, WOW! dropped a couple of seconds a lap IMMEDIATELY, and haven't gone more than 2 clicks either way ever since. They KNOW! It's that obvious.

I could go into greater detail about what I found inside the Enzo "work", but I don't want to bash or embarrass them. Long story short, I was shocked!

No pun intended!

Well......earlier today when I started this thread , I hadn't talked to Dave at Pro-motion suspension in a while. We have exchanged a few emails back and forth today and I let him know that FC was the way i was leaning towards modding my suspension. He DOES USE some of the FC parts in his mods , along with other companies as well. he also modifies some of the stock stuff as well , depending on the bike and the rider.

I think me and him are on the same page on what I'm looking for now. And since he lives close and is willing to go spend some time with me setting everything up.....I'm going to end up using him.

I did tell him that in years past , I wasn't ever really happy with the Race tech stuff he was doing. He agreed and he mentioned that these past 4-5 years , he has incorporated many new , and different parts and says his suspension knowledge itself is way better to boot.

he also mentioned that in a lot of his oil changes and other mods , that the FC suspension stuff he has worked on....is setup a LOT like what he does. He mentioned that Enzo and RG3 do things a little differently that himself and FC.

BTW.....thanks to all you guys for the input! I'm definitely leaning towards the FC mods along with Pro=motion doing all the work. I'll get it figured out.

Overall all the major suspension companies are going the same route in modifying the customers suspension. There may be a few tricks or products they have available but the main aspect of getting your suspension set up for you is getting the correct spring rates for your weight and a shim stack to resemble your speed and riding style. The best thing to do is to find someone who knows suspension! This can be through a major company dont get me wrong but if you want the best suspension you need to have someone that knows what they are doing and what YOU need (not someone else... you!). Each person has different needs when it comes to suspension. If you are generically sending in your stuff to "x" company and not giving any feedback or any track test time then you are just getting the base settings. Some companies have better base settings than others because some may be more geared towards people who ride and are shaped differently than you are. Any suspension company can be as good as any other if they change the set up to fit your needs along with your feedback from track time.

Hey guys.....I just wanted to see what suspension service you may think is the best. I personally have only used Race Tech on my last 3 bikes ( except the 2010 Yami ).

I have ridden a few bikes that had work done on them by Enzo and RG3 , and I know it has a lot to do with the way the bike is set up , but there were a couple of those bikes that were amazing!

IF you did get your suspension done......who did you have the best luck with as far as the way the bike rode , cost and service??

One person here has got some brains.

Learn to do it yourself and 95% of the time you can get exactly the right feel with different springs and oil heights.

Most of these suspension outfits are a joke. Some fool who doesn't even know how to turn clickers sends a note with their weight and "riding ability."

The tech slides in one shim, charges for a few parts they didn't even install, and tells you its just like the pros use! And thanks to the placebo effect, the rider feels a "huge difference!"

I agree that learning it yourself is / would be the best way. But you seriously have to know exactly what you are doing! Testing it , then tearing it down , then testing , tearing down...ect , ect , ect......that's a lot of friggin' work!

Like what has been mentioned in quite a few of the replies here , "most" suspension guys will get you close. And in my case , I'll have the guy out at the track with me helping me get it all dialed in. Besides that , there are internal parts and so forth in which I don't own the right "specialty" tool to remove / modify them. I have no idea on what valves , how many shims , oil heights , pre-load springs , tube height and so forth.....I don't even know where to start.

With all the things some of these guys ( i'm speaking of Dave himself ) does on my suspension ( or what he can do ) is a TON of hours I don't have to spend working on my bike , or messing something up. That's all I need to do is screw up a $2000.00 pair of forks.

For me it's worth every penny! These new 450's are so friggin' fast bone stock.....the best money spent is getting the suspension dialed in. Maybe a pipe and some other little knick-knacks on getting the "feel" right.......but by far , the suspension is the most important on these 450's.

Sure.....sooner or later , I will learn most of it , and will be able to set up the bike on my own. But for right now , I need help ( for this spring anyways ).

I have ran Enzo, FC, Factory Connection, Pro Circuit, MB1, BR1 and Pro Action. All of those worked awesome, but the best suspension I've had is a small company out of Bozeman, MT called Performance Fix Racing. PFR is very big on testing and is out there with all the bikes with many different riders getting settings and has things down to a science. He does all my suspension and his lastest stuff he did for me was an SX setting on a 2010 CRF 450, and it was right on the mark the first ride out with no tuning. I've been racing since I was 3 and I'm 20 now, so needless to say I've done alot of suspension testing once I get my suspension back from a tuner. Most need pretty drastic changes to make it on point, and PFR's always come just the way I want them.

They are small, so you really get to work with the person who will actually be doing your suspension and they will be able to talk with you about how it make it work and will take it back until you're completely satisfied. They travel the northwest (especially Utah, Idaho, Montana, Washington) every weekend with a rig set up to do revalves and respring bikes on site and next year will be heading to all the Am. Nationals.

Give J.t. a call over there and at the very least pick his brain. Their website is www.performancefixracing.com

I have had several companies do mine over the years. All small local companies. What I have found is that everybody likes it a little different. Spring rate and basic bike ballance fore and aft is pretty simple but beyond that riders and suspention tuners both have a idea of how they want it to feel. The trick is to find a tuner that has the same concept of good suspention that you do, to avoid the constant need to make changes.

Shaggy at straightline suspention out of tyler texas is my guy! He took time to talk to me about his suspention "theory" for lack of a better word. He feels that the rebound damping is the most important part of the stroke. He stated that he really wasn't going to change the compression action of my forks (due to the fact that my model of bike had pretty good action to begin with, he has worked with all the brands extensively), but he was goin to drasticly change the rebound damping, esspecially on the shock. The result was a bike that tracks EXTREMELY WELL!!! I told him that i always liked a very connected feel, I like feeling like my tires are in the dirt not on top of it. Told him that i like it borderline soft. Let me tell you, that bike WILL NOT SWAP! Belive me, I have tried. Its crazy, when it does break traction it is so predictible. Best stuff ever! Yes it does bottom on huge hits, but that only matters when im learning a new track really. Once you get the big jumps dialed its buttery smooth.

"enzo" has built suspension for most of our projects: Everything from a 1-legged Silver Medalist at the X-Games to a fat-old-fart winning the Big Bear at Mammoth. They've, also, made ANY changes/adjustments to the originally prescribed set-up VERY Quickly...Todd's set-up for the X-Games went back-n-forth until...it was "Absolutely PERFECT"! (Todd's Words).

As he get's faster (And is hittin' ramps...he's a nut)...they keep making the necessary adjustments: Jus' like a factory would during testing and development.

I've seen, rode & raced on some REALLY good stuff from MB-1 (Jay Clark's various projects) and RG-3 (A Suzuki owned scoot that I rode @ the Lake Elsinore GP-2009).

A few years agao...I rode KX's w/ Bones' Off-Road set-up: Again, AWESOME!

This year in Baja, I rode a CRF-X w/ the suspension freshened & stiffened up by a company calles AS Racing...good stuff, too,

I've seen excellent results from ALL of these folks.

Post a reply to: Fav after market suspension.....Enzo , PC , FC , RG3 ?
