Was just out in Randsburg over the weekend after the big rains. The place got absolutely hammered and I fear for inexperienced riders/drivers over the holiday, as we saw rain ravines big enough to swallow a VW bug whole. Lots of sand wash drop offs, and etc. Heard the same from folks coming that had been to Jawbone. It's going to be especially worse once the top layer dries out and the dust comes back. Sorry if this is off topic from the original thread topic, just thought it might be good to get the word out around to the community.

Either way, it’s still time spent with the family!

Nothing better than the desert after rain...equivalent of a powder day on the mountain.

We've gotten some rain, and a bit of snow, here in Utah...The dirt this weekend was PERFECT...no dust, tacky, but not sticking to the fenders.  Amazing!  I rode until I was so tired I couldn't ride any more, and I'm feeling so sore I can't move today.

Where did you ride?  I went south to Mesquite for some track riding.  I can't seem to escape my mx roots and get into the off-road / desert stuff yet.  I do plan to get a bike that is more suited for it eventually.

I think you’re right on topic…and it’s cool that you posted the “fair warning”.

That’s all Dez out there and it’s a popular off-road area.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Thanksgiving complete with some awesome riding.

Been a great trip so far. I think I might be over coming out here on the weekends. 😂 Yesterday was super refreshing. There was hardly anybody out here and the motorcycles outnumbered the side by sides 5 to 1. Also a good father son ride yesterday. We did about a 3 Hour Loop just me and him.

This past weekend I rode outside of Price (I've got some secret single track out there very very few know about...it was absolutely perfect!).

Mesquit is probably my favorite desert single track area (especially after rain!)...two of my favorite single track trails are down there (North of town out by the landfill).  Absolutely amazing!  (assuming you like fast, flowy, sandy, single track...connected with some fast fire roads, and washes).  You'd need someone who knows those trails to show you as they aren't on any maps (sadly the stupid SxS's are gradually finding them, and turning them into roads...what kind of idiot driving a SxS sees a SINGLE TRACK trail, and just decides to drive down it?  And then more idiots see their tracks and drive down it...then before long its just a road...its infuriating)...but if you just went out there and started exploring, you'd still find so much awesome riding.  I love that place!

Warner Valley in St. George has some great riding as well. Not as good as mesquite (its just way more popular)....but still a blast!

As for your moto focus...one of the best things about a wet desert, right there with single track, are the turn tracks...especially if you are in an area with very very few rocks and lots of sand (wet clay in the desert just turns to concrete and isn't fun)...and those are basically moto tracks with no jumps.  So go out and start putting together some turns, ride it over and over again (bring some buddies)...eventually you'll get nice ruts and berms in the corners, it'll roughen up with some braking/acceleration bumps...and its a blast!

Says the guy who wants to start waterski racing 🤣. Waterski racers and desert racers share a very similar genetic make up. Nothing like getting a good start and being side by side with that twin turbo big block making all of that noise.   Thanks for the heads up on the conditions out there. That September monsoon was probably one of the worse since the one back in ‘05.

I meant the mx track in Mesquite.  I have ridden Warner a few times, but I don't think I found the good trails.  Regardless, thanks for the info.  I need to get out and explore more areas.

Yeah man it’s hard if you’re by yourself. I’ve gone out a few times & just by myself with no experience it doesn’t do it for me. I also hate being alone while I’m riding. I just go ride the tracks. If i had other people to ride with then maybe I could get used to it more but do not like being out there alone.

I do have a turn track like a 1/2 mile behind my house. It is not the same as just roaming the desert, just mx practice. I ride there a little & I tell my girlfriend if I’m not back in 30 minutes to come look for me but frankly I bet it’d take hours for her to even notice I was gone 😂😂

On those rare wet desert days, the Solder Pass area on the west side of Utah lake has some great areas to burn in some turn tracks…park at the corrals just west of Redwood road, and then head south/south west into the flats and start putting turns together until you’ve got a track.  So much fun!

Was just out in Randsburg over the weekend after the big rains. The place got absolutely hammered and I fear for inexperienced riders/drivers over the holiday, as we saw rain ravines big enough to swallow a VW bug whole. It’s as bad as I’ve ever seen it, been living near there for 25 years and riding here for almost 50 years. Great riding in the wet, lots of fun, but 90% of the trails are tore up so don’t rely on what you remember a trail looking like last time. 4-5 foot deep ruts in places.. Had an amazing run down a wet sand wash on Sunday though, miles that were smooth like a freeway..

Made it back home yesterday. I thought it’d be fun to count how many RV’s we’d pass heading home. I got to over 100 from poleline road to the twisties then stopped counting because I was more concerned with missing them than counting them.  lol. Fun trip ! It was the most I’ve ridden a dirt bike in awhile and definitely feel it today. Here’s the 3rd member of our 2 wheeled weekend crew 😎Happy Thanksgiving !
