'Oz SX: Townley on the road to recovery after hip dislocation'
New Zealander Ben Townley suffered a dislocated hip during his heat race at the Auckland round of the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, last Saturday night, with positive news stemming out of NZ this week.
According to Kiwi Rider magazine http://krnewsroom.blogspot.com/2010/11/townleys-future-in-doubt.html Townley was admitted into surgery yesterday and put under general anaesthetic, however after doctors tested Townley’s hip socket it was found to be in good condition without the requirement for surgery.
It was originally believed that Townley would have to undergo surgery with the possibility of a reconstruction in a process that would likely rule him out of the 2011 season.
The next month will be critical in Townley’s hopes for the 2011 MX1 Motocross World Championship, recently signing with the Monster Energy Kawasaki CLS team to return to Europe full time next season.
Kiwi Rider is reporting that Townley is expected to make a full recovery in the next month.
Next year’s Motocross Grand Prix season will commence at Sevlievo in Bulgaria on 4 April, giving Townley almost five months to fully recuperate from the incident.
Townley is a former MX2 Motocross World Champion and AMA East Coast Lites Supercross Champion, finishing fourth overall in the 450 Class AMA Pro Motocross Championship this season.

There are very few riders who have the must win attitude. Think back to the race at Red Bud, how many riders would have given up and let Dungey go.
Its awesome he doesn't need surgery.
We need guys like that out there, a true racer!
Now it would seem plenty of time for a full recovery and pre-season program.
I hope he decides to quit while the gettin' is good.
A great friend and interesting bloke, but he needs to understand his limitations.
