So a friend of mine that works at a dealership in the orange county area was driving down Interstate 5 yesterday and a CHP pulled him over and gave him a $750 ticket for having a gas can that wasn't C.A.R.B. approved. The CHP could see the pore spout sticking up out of the bed and once he pulled him over the CHP also told him that having V.P. race gas in the blue cans they come in would get him a ticket also.
Actually they vent to let air in.

Is that what those are there for? I thought it was for when you got thirsty you could stop and take a little drink right from that hose. That explains why my stomach has been hurting for the last 25 years.

I finally called the CHP main office to see if they were ticketing people and the guy didn't know anything about it.

He asked one of the other guys who rides and he didn't know about it either. Neither one of them had heard a thing about this.

I think the person that started this thread got a CHP that was imported from Texas.

By any chance was the word "meow" uttered while your mate was getting the ticket?

That is just unbelievable. Turning Highway patrol into the enforcement arm of GangGreen eco zealots, and turning honest citizens into criminals for just living a normal life.

Unbelievable..

I called too and got the same response. I'm sure they can no longer sell gas cans that are not C.A.R.B. approved, but they cant ticket people for using gas can they have had for years and years. Do they want us to throw away hundreds of thousands of old gas cans in land fills? I'm sure that would be great for the environment.

All I know is my buddy has been in the industry for years and is a parts guy at a very well established dealership in orange county and none of us have ever heard of anything like this until he got his ticket and his can is several years old. I am sure its all about the cop that pulls you over, I got a ticket once for 2 mph over the limit, some cops are just d*cks, not all, but some.

I would fight it for sure. A long time ago me a few friends got tickets for riding out at Beumont. The cop wrote on the tickets "off road riding". When we went to court, the judge looked at the tickets and said, "I dont even know what this means" and just excused us. There is a lot of confusion with this right now and some cops obviously dont know what is or isnt the correct law with it, it wouldnt hurt for your friend to check into it and fight it.

He is fighting it for sure, There is an exemption for cans used for quick fills on motorcycles that are used in competition so he is going to screw a quick fill lid on it and take his ama card with him and ask for it to be dismissed. That is why I did the research and found the link to the law so he could print it out and take it with him, The cop didnt take a picture of the can so how is he going to say that it didnt have a quick fill lid on it.

These shitty gas cans are everywhere now... I went to five different stores here in WI and couldn't find one without some kind of cheap-ass, ill-performing, anti-evaporation feature. I finally bought one, and the first time I used it the damn thing leaked all over my seat and tank as I poured gas. I've never spilled more gas in my life then that one time using that POS gas can.

I was just at Chaparral Motorsports and saw all their jugs had that sign over them. When I asked WTF you're supposed to use they pointed me to another room where they had one traditional red model.

I've been looking around the net and spotted these -

http://www.no-spill.com/CARBcans.htm

Says that they are CARB approved. Effing pointy-headed little bureaucrats got nothing better to do than pass a gazillion laws and regulations in this state.

I need a new can anyhow and I don't need a $750 donation to the state. I'm thinking that with city, county, state governments broke ... they will write you up just to get the $$$.

BTW - that model claims to pour fast as well -

"The fastest pouring Spill-Proof nozzle available. At up to 3 gal/min, compare to other brands at 1.5 to 2.0 gal/min."

The one question I have is would it be legal to have that can strapped down on a 2 rail trailer in a gas can holder? Or does any sort of non-metal gas can have to be stored inside the vehicle?

The madness continues.

I finally tracked down a place that carries one of these No-Spill cans like above 39 bucks but it seems to be well made. As soon as I got home i happened to get a call from a bud that races carts and does some offroad riding and he tells me he already has one .... and the problem is that they still swell up in the heat ... but now there's no pop-off vent to relieve the pressure. He said the pressure finally messed up the cap and nozzle thingie.

Now when he uses it he has to leave the cap slightly loose so that it can vent off the pressure. Which means it will probably leak when it is full. Effing great.

Who is this TFS guy anyway? I bet he has never been to Texas. (well maybe once or twice)
The DPS wouldn't ticket you for anything like that here in Texas. Hell, most of us just dig a hole drain the oil, throw in the filters and then cover 'em up!
We all have oil wells in the backyard anyway.
Yeee Haaaaw!
Git 'er Done! LOL
Steve loves Texas,....... don't you?
