So I had hernia surgury on Monday. Had a screen put in both sides. Was suppose to be a 45 minute surgury but ended up being 3 hours. I was just wondering from other people that have had it what I'm looking at to get back in the gym and to doing normal things. I have a hard time sitting still and spend alot of time at the gym or running. I know that I can get back to running a little bit quicker than weights. But I'm trying to get a gage on a time frame that I will looking at. Even getting back on the bike. Didn't really expect this surgury to knock me down as hard as it did for a couple days.

I had both sides done as well but one at a time over 13 months. It was hell back then (1993/94) recovery for me was almost 6 months, but I know the proceedure is much better now. I didn't have the screen put in but wish I had.

42 days before you stress that mesh maximally. That's the length of time it takes tissue to regain 95-98% of it's tensile strength. Running's probably ok at 3-4 weeks. No weights for the full 6 weeks. If it were me, I wouldn't moto until 6 weeks.

Sure, you can screw around with it earlier, push you luck, get a little tear, and go have it done again.......if that's what you want.

Had an ingunal (spell?) hernia that the doc told me was one of the worst he had seen. I don't even remember when it first showed up but I know it was a problem for at least 10 years before a doc told me what could happen if it got twisted so I decided to have it fixed in the off season.

Had it done with the mesh.

had complications with internal bleeding that had my scrotum the size of a volleyball.

It was suposed to be an out patient procedure but spent 3 days in the hospital.

Took about 3 months for swelling to go down.

It was either lie down or walk like a sumo wrestler for 2 1/2 months.

Not the most pleasant winter I have had.

That was 15 years ago and it is still tender around the scar.

I am sure the procedure is much less invasive now.

I had the same procedure, except it had migrated it's way down to my sack around my testicles. Ouch! I couched it for a good week, Light running in 3 weeks, back to normal in about 7 weeks. Take it easy that first week.

Good luck.

Yeah the amount of swelling in the testies was a bit of a surprise. Now my 16 year old daughter rolled a quad on Wednesday and broke her arm just below the shoulder and had to get a plate and seven screws in her arm yesterday. My wife has 2 gimps to look after now.

I had both sides done. worked light duty for 3 months and took about a year before I could no longer feel pain wher they fix it. That was 3 years ago and have no problems now.

Did they do it by ortho or cut you?

I have heard ortho takes a couple weeks where when I had 2 done and was cut it was 30 days before doing anything strenuous.

Mine was laproscopic. The surgean told me it would be about 2 weeks before I felt fairly good. I went back to work 2 days later. But I have an office job so it wasn't to strenuous. I kind of come and go at work right now. Depending on how I feel. My boss is cool with that. Went home at lunch today and couldn't believe the bruising today. Swelling is coming down alot today. Surgeon told me I would bruise from my belly button to my knees. Just having a tough time with the down time. I don't think I can watch much more baseball. And I enjoy baseball.
