It would be amazing if he could be on TLD, but it won't happen. Reed thinks he's too good to ride on anything other than factory equipment, and he might be right. If he doesn't feel he has a chance to win without the equipment, then he won't race. He's not the kind of guy to sign up for 3rd-5th, he would rather not race. Yes he liked the Honda, but not enough to take him to the top podium step.

Even if TLD had the backing from Red Bull, they would just be in the same boat as H&H is right now with enough funding but not the right equipment. Reed is requiring a Factory bike and a factory salary on a satellite team.

Like I said last week, I'll be surprised to see him at A1.
So you are saying the TLD equipment isn't up to par? That's a pretty laughable statement to me, Townely had no problem being up front outdoors...

The only thing that I think is a big sticking point with H&H is them most likely being on Kawi's. To say either of those teams are on sub-par equipment for next year is far off base, IMO
Hahn was killing it on the TLD ride last season.

Pro Circuit is nolonger the king. Face it, Kawi's are the new Suzuki's.

That being said, if TLD were to commit to doing the full supercross series, I think that they would be a perfect fit. Seely and Baker on the west coast and then run Craig on the east, along with obviously Reed the entire series.

Seems to me, I remember Ping talking on a podcast about trying to resign Townley, but him wanting to do outdoor only was a sticking point. That could just mean that TLD may be actually thinking about doing the 450 class, but thats just speculation

His bank account is set, why would he need get a way cash? If he didn't like racing anymore why would he even bother trying to put together a ride. He cares cause he has said countless times that he has unfinished business. You sound like you are just making stuff up

hey redalert144, we're all making up stuff here; chill out. that's just my opinion, based on some facts i've seen. to fuel your Reed fire, why would he seem anyhting but dedicated if he was job hunting?

Why the hell would I say TLD equipment isn't up to par? I've never ridden a full on TLD PC honda, much less a factory Honda. I'm saying that Chad doesn't believe a production based Honda is up to par because of the suspension and transmission (read the interview). Doesn't matter what I think, if that's what he thinks then even with Red Bull backing a deal with TLD would not happen without factory equipment from Honda.

You're entitled to your opinion, as am I, but only Chad's opinion matters here and that's why I'm saying it won't happen.

Again, he's got money its not like he's been a struggling privateer his whole career. I think he would rather spend time with his family than just try and get a deal for money. your thinking really is ridiculous

As his boss, the first thing I would have him do in Heat 1 is lose control in the mechanics area taking LB out!

With LB out Bubba will be clueless as a racer...Chad will be on easy street after the LB accident

I would also demand he take Josh Grant out because I dont like him.

If the millions of Vital members tossed a buck in a bucket would could afford Reed for the year.

FUN, it would be FUN.
Sweet Jesus, dude. Give it up. There aren't "millions of vital members." Stewart raced for a couple of decades without LB and just fine (actually... better). So he wouldn't be clueless. Chad will not be on easy street if James is out. RV, RD, CP, TC, etc... will be giving him fits all season. Why don't you like Josh? When I interviewed him he was one of the coolest, most down to earth riders I've talked to. You're nuts kid.

Where does he talk about suspension, the only thing i saw was "I got suspension off Mitch [Payton, from Pro Circuit], pipes off Mitch and all that kind of stuff, and man, it was a pretty good damn bike."

He ran PC suspension...

And you're right, I'm sure TLD Honda doesn't have the means to modify a transmission. Wassat

Maybe, but as far as I know very few riders get to ride with factory transmissions, and they are about $50-80k a piece if I remember correctly from an interview with a factory mechanic. AND there's a HUGE difference between a factory transmission and a "modified" transmission. PC did their own for a while during the first years of the 250F because they kept blowing up 2nd gear but that was just 2nd gear, not the full transmission.

Again, it all comes down to whether or not he thinks he can beat James on the equipment. There's more to it than just slapping on a factory tranny and factory suspension like it's MXvsATV and you just accumulated enough points to buy them. It's having the resources and parts available to customize the bike to the rider's exact liking. When you are going the pace that Reed, Dungey, RV and Stewart run in supercross, it makes sense that every little bit makes a huge difference.

I realize that they're expensive and that there's a difference between a works tranny versus a modified one. I'm also aware that the TLD has access to the same things that the PC team does.

IMO, if Honda make a works transmission shouldn't they just CNC a bunch of units and distribute them to both factory and B teams?

Chad rode with a stock fucking transmission in Australia this weekend and it sure didn't seem to hold him back very much?

didnt bt wear out trannys quick while he was testing with TLD. Thought i remeber ping saying that honda would help out with some parts for bt if the results came. think he ever got a works tranny while at TLD?

Chad has burned too many bridges, Kaw, Suz and Yam factory bikes are not an option, that leaves factory Honda if its true he will only ride a factory bike. Has Honda ever supplied an outside team with 450 factory equipment? I don't think even Windham gets the full works package so Chad may be out of luck? Redbull would have to become his personal sponsor for Chad to get a factory Honda, which is very unlikely considering Redbulls strong relationship with JS7. TLD with a low salary may be his only option .I bet he rues the day he left Suzuki..

That "non-factoy" tranny seemed to work fine for BT last season as well. I do recall him whipping the world's finest in one moto of the US GP, so I guess that tranny did OK that day.

I think the only "bridge" Chad remotely burned was Kawi... and I doubt he cares if he never gets on one of those bikes again. Suzuki was no hard feelings (it wasn't Chad's fault) and the Yamaha guys still really like him.

I thought I read somewhere that Windham used factory suspension but I could be wrong.

About BT doing well with the factory tranny, doesn't matter. Once again, it's not what other riders have done or what we think. If Chad believes he needs factory equipment to hang with Stewart and he can't get it with H&H or TLD, he won't race. Whether other riders do fine on stock equipment or not, Chad is very very picky about his bike.

And yes, once again, he did well in Australia on stock equipment. But that was against Reardon, a sick Hansen, and a once again new to SX Alessi. Very different than racing against Stewart.

His best bet would have been to take the second spot on Honda for a bonus centered contract. Since Honda is no longer with Red Bull they may have let him keep his Monster sponsorship which could have made up the difference in salary.

Oh well, there will still be plenty of competition.

1.) Reed is no longer with Monster after leaving Kawi. He said he has zero ties for next year except Alpinestars (which fits under the TLD awning).

2.) Reed dropped Thor after a nearly lifelong career with them. Maybe so he can get into some TLD gear?

3.) He's digging his pro-circuit Honda. TLD has a PC Honda under their tents.

I don't know how likely it is, but it would be interesting.
