Hello all, I picked up a pretty trashed 1994 cr250 project bike. I'm looking at replacing the forks as the ones that came on the bike are in very rough shape visibly. The uppers are gouged and look like some one possibly slid them on concrete.
Anyways, I found a set of stock 2007 CRF450r forks, upper and lower triples, steering stem, front axle and front brake assembly.
What would be required to adapt the 2007 front end to the 94 frame? What should I be looking for? The stem length? Bearing diameters for the steering stem?
I found quite a few older posts on vital about this very topic but they do not really address the stem and bearings.
I used one of their kits to adapt a 2001 CR250 front end to an ‘83 XR350
Oh ok I will check that out! Thank you for the suggestion.
The easiest way is to see if your stock clamps can be bored to accept the newer forks, that way yiu dont have to buy triple clamps or weld new steer stops on your frame, the aluminum framed triples have different steer stops…my 96 Cr250 had period correct Applied upper & lower clamps, 2008 CRF 450 forks slid right in…
Ah Thank you! I honestly didn't think about the steering stop. The frame has already been powder coated so I REALLY do not want to grind paint and weld.. You just potentially saved me from a $500 mistake.

Just get your stock stuff rebuild and valved for you by a legit company. It won’t hold you back.
When doing these builds can”t stress enough….test fit and mock up…always before any finish work…
The shock can be made to work good, although I would look for a 96 shock with HS compression adjustment..the stock forks were grim, can you still ride it..sure but if you really want to elevate the bikes performance, better/ more modern forks and front brake setups are huge on this bike, these are 2 areas where vast improvements have been made….I have 08 CRf450 forks on a 96 Cr250, this also opens up the front brake options, I have oversized rotor kit from MotoStuff… just as good as my KtM”s…. Without the newer forks, you don’t have much front brake options…
I put some 05 CRF450 forks on a 93.
I welded frame to hit the newer clamp stops.
I put older stem in newer clamps.
I just used standard 93 bearings and races.
The newer clamps are lighter, and have removable bar clamps to give you more handlebar options.
One thing to note, I have my fork height 10mm above top clamp. I didn't verify if it's because of shorter head tube, or forks are longer... but it handles best this way.
I’ve got 93 cr 250 . I got a hold of a 07 crf 450 complete front end . I just put the 93 steering stem in the 07 triple clamps or machine the 07 steering stem . 93@07 run the same bearings
