There was a mini Supercross track on the corner of Clinton Keith and 215 freeway in Murrieta back in the day.  I would rip it on my KX125!  It was there until like 2004 when I moved away.  Now there’s a Target, Ross, and Tractor Supply Co shopping center on that land.

Hearing these experiences from riders of all levels just makes me have so much more respect for the Pros, especially the ones in the 80s and 90s riding peaked out SX tracks on older 2 strokes.  The suspensions were nothing like we have today, let alone the torque of 4 strokes.  Just walking a professional SX track makes you realize how dangerous the obstacles are.  And what little I have been able to ride amateur level SX/AX tracks, you start to understand what they mean when they say "hitting your marks".  The precision and skill it takes to ride SX is insane rare.  And its one thing to just ride the track and clear all the obstacles.  It's a whole different story to actually "Race" on it where you can be 3 wide on some of those gnarly jumps.  I do wish there were more doable amateur level tracks to try here locally.

Friend of mine had a legit supercross track that was an Atlanta replica back around 2010ish. That was also when I was about my fastest (fast being very relative)

It was boring AF rolling every single obstacle, there was just about nothing I could do on the track. Even something as a step on/step off I thought, well at least I can roll, jump the table, and roll. Wrong. The table was so GD steep and the next single comes up so quick it was just roll, roll, roll.

Another friend had a non spec SX track, that was slightly more fun as there were a few jumps I could do

B/a riders would enjoy it, but that’s about it

The futures races they had the day after SX seemed too tame. There’s a balance between being too watered down, and way too difficult, but it’s a hard one to find

This. I had to roll every single whoop at the SX track at Castillo Ranch in 1st gear, because I couldn't even wheelie over one in 2nd. The whoops were so peaky that I could balance my frame on top like it was a bike stand. You basically had to commit to 4th gear mid-throttle and skim, which I couldn't do because I didn't jump the single/table/single before it, which I couldn't even try because I had to roll the gigantic double leading into the 180 before that, which was completely out of the question because I wasn't able to get over the first jump in the sequence that was 2-2-2-2 or 3-3-2 or 3-2-3 before that...

More man than me rolling the whoops, I went around the sumbitches everytime 😂

My dad likes to play a hypothetical of, if we were  on a supercross track, how long would it take for us to get lapped. My firm belief is that I would still be on my first lap when I was getting lapped

TNT had a small one that was fun because the jumps were not huge.  Couldn't imagine doing much more than that.  I would pass.

TNT was pretty tame compared to a real SX track but I rode around the SX track and did a couple of the jumps and said nope not for me and went back to the regular track.

I never did do the down hill blind jump that was headed towards the SX track. Just never felt comfortable to do it.

The down hill triple your talking about was my shining achievement back then.  I remember the first time I did it I yelled all the way down the back straight.  That was a fun place to ride on Friday mornings right after the prep.

I don't know i did 2 sx future races and either of those 2 tracks were tamed down at all. Specifically the last st Louis race was legit still the same. The lane before the over under was still blind jump over landings with the same angle as when I walked the track Saturday. Landings were exactly the same as Saturday. The only real difference was they removed 2 whoops from the start of the section and one at the end. The big leap over the start lane was cut to about half distance. I remember being putted next to Tim and Evan ferry unitl rockstar got them a space and asking Tim if it looked the same to him to from out walk on Saturday and he agreed.

There's a number of Vital members and moto media folks who need to be put on a SX track, with lots of cameras rolling. And I'm talking a fresh SX track, not even close to as beat down as an actual SX round in the main events.

I believe there is a massive disconnection between the reality of riding/racing a SX track and how it's perceived on TV or the press box by fans and members of the moto media.

I would like to have video evidence of their hot lap to attach in a reply to every disrespectful comment, tweet, statement, post, etc. from these individuals.

I mean sort of?  We aren’t getting paid to go fast on a sx track? Our livelihoods are not tied to being good or by taking risks so I’m not sure what you’re really getting at with all that.

I do think it’s way harder than most realize and that we agree with but the rest, I dunno man.

We’re talking about the Sunday amateur supercross that they had in like 2019, right?

I’m not sure how many years they did it or at how many rounds, I just remember being really excited that they were doing it, then seeing a few videos and thinking whoa, they tamed them down so much it’s hardly supercross

****edit

Found some footage of the amateur day, this one looked pretty legit. Definitely the best I’ve seen of the amateur days

I do think it’s way harder than most realize and that we agree with but the rest, I dunno man.

I think a lot of what the riders are up against is overlooked and underappreciated.

Look how overconfident Matthes was about the start stuff on the factory Honda. He looked like an absolute clown.

When the media members interview riders about a race, they will condescendingly ask a rider why he stopped jumping a quad or something big, and the rider basically says "Uhhh, get on the bike and give it a go yourself if it's that easy". It's even worse when they're doing their analsys without the rider right in front of them.

I know that I start to forget how physically and mentally tough racing is in general if I haven't raced in a while. Then I'll line up and it humbles me, really makes me appreciate how damn gnarly the tracks are, competition is, mental stress, physcial challenges, etc. in AMA SX/MX.

I  guess what I'm trying to say is that it's easy to lose perspective and talk out of your ass.

Mark me down in the “hell no, under any circumstances” category.
